Guest shadamehr
Intersting tale for you folks (or whatever). Tonight my dear darling other half, asked me what a MILF was... Mmmmm yes well... You see, one of her TextAmerica Moblog images had received a comment saying "Now that's one mmmmmiiiiillllllfffff I'd sure like to meet" (It was a picture of her flashin her sexy thong lifting her skirt up, but while pushing a pram - tastefully of course, not warped). So, to explain to her what a MILF was, I simply entered it into Google, told her it would produce lots of porn returns, and voila - there they were. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.... On one of the sites I showed her, she noticed something I has missed... There was a link for AdultFriendFinder, and the message read: "Girls in *Dunston* want to meet you. Click here for more" And both the word Dunston, and the word here, were hyperlinks to Matches in AdultFrinedFinder. Now I'm no internet newbie, and I am aware that my IP address is easily readable when viewing a website. But as far as I know, being Telewest Broadband, at the very best, this would just locate me on a WhoIs search, as accessing the web from a Gateshead access point at very best. So, that being the case, how did this web site know I was from Dunston, the specific locality where I live? Was it through web IP tracking, or other more nefarious, subtle, or simply overlooked, methods...? This has got me a bit baffled, and a bit worried. Any ideas anyone? Guest nickcornaglia
Looking at your current IP the closest I can get you using a few different websites is in Newcastle...though the breakdown does mention: 00-00-00-000.cable.ubr03.gate.blueyonder.co.uk Looking at my current IP address: many sites show my current location being Jersey City,NJ (about 90 miles away). But I did hit a website that knew my correct town as my IP HOST NAME is listed as: 00-00-00-000.mtlrel01.nj.comcast.net mtlrel = Mount Laurel...which is correct. So my guess is that this host location name is key. See your host name here: http://www.showmyip.com/ See other details here: http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation Hoped that helped. I learned something! ^_^
Guest awarner [MVP]
That's actually quite scary  Makes it good to track down those scrum sellers on the net that rip people off.
Guest PinkPig
Well, the closest it gets for me is "London", which is a reassuring number of miles inaccurate.
Guest chucky.egg
Ah yeah, it thinks I'm in Sidcup (not correct, but only 40 miles out I guess) So does this mean that it was just that Shadamehr was connected to a "hub" in his own town? [you're impressed with my huge knowledge of this internet-thingy terminology aren't you?]
Guest shadamehr
Thanks for the replies folks, but just as I thought, the IP soultion will only give my locality as newcastle, or if you know what to look for in address, 'gat' is actually Gateshead, specifically. But this was nowhere near the very sepcific locality within gateshead where I live, that the website threw up... Strange indeed then...
