Guest rfan622 Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I know that there is a documented memory leak, but the leak on my phone has gotten to the point where I pretty much want my $5 back. I have a MPX220 and everytime I do a fresh boot, I start off with around 9 megs of free memory. By the end of the day maybe 8-9 hours I have around 2megs or so. If I don't reboot my phone at all, the next morning the device runs out of memory and just crashes. I actually get a home screen error page when it's out of memory. (Guess it doesn't have enough memory to refresh a page. ) Is this something I have to live with if I continue to use this plug-in? If it is, I may have to deal w/o out it until a version w/o the leak is released.

Handango will happily return your $5 if you purchased recently. I only ask that you make up your mind and stick with it, I get ~$2.50 for a purchase and lose ~$7 for a return. If you enjoy the plug-in but really think it's killing your phone you may have better success if you turn off repeating appointments (read back in this thread or see the readme file). I am certainly working on this issue, but I haven't solved it yet and, based on the success so far, I don't expect it to be solved for many months. For the record, I have an MPx220 and I reboot it weekly for the memory issue. I have about 6 appointments per day, 1 of which repeating. Thanks for your support, Patrick
Guest BarnOwl Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I get ~$2.50 for a purchase and lose ~$7 for a return. Are you serious? They have a net margin of 100% and they charge you for a return? How the hell could you agree to these conditions?
Guest sullivanpt Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Are you serious? They have a net margin of 100% and they charge you for a return? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Technically speaking, it's the credit card processing fees returned to the customer that get charged to the developer. Somebody has to eat the fee, and good luck convincing VISA is should be them  The credit card fees are a pretty high percentage of a $5 purchase.

Guest ZygMalian Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Hi Patrick Love the plugin, but have also experienced the memory leak. Have you had any joy in "plugin" :D it? Zyg
Guest scottb Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 [snip...] Have you had any joy in "plugin" :D it? Zyg <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :D
Guest sullivanpt Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Have you had any joy in "plugin" :D it? Zyg <{POST_SNAPBACK}> =D> But seriously, I just read a knowledgebase article on COM's built in caching of BSTR values, that could be the source of the problem. I'll have to puzzle a workaround together and experiment. keep your fingers crossed.
Guest mzh-arizona Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Mr. Sullivan, I had one other request, I was wondering if it is possible to add a setting which would allow the plugin to skip appointments marked as "Free." A lot of times I will retain my cancelled appointments and add notes regarding the cancellation. It would be beneficial if I could remove these "Free" appointments from my homescreen. Thanks, again! Ron.

Guest stephen.gazard Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 How would I get your excellent plug in to work with the Oxios Plugin Home layout?
Guest sullivanpt Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 How would I get your excellent plug in to work with the Oxios Plugin Home layout? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't have this layout :-( It would be a simple matter of replacing the XML for the calendar plug in with the scrolling appointment plug in. If you PM or e-mail the XML from your favorite homescreen, I can make the changes.
Guest MaJiK Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 I may have missed this somewhere in the thread, but when I have no appointments it disaplys a really long "No New Upcoming Appointments" and makes my homescreen look crap because its not aligned properly and is too long. Anyone know how to fix this?

Guest coolandfast Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 hi patrick long time no hear.... this means, your plugin is working perfect for me. i'm still using version 1.9 - is this the latest version? to get around the memory leak i just restart the phone every other day.... greetings.
Guest robertperalta Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Hey Patrick, When do you plan to release the next version? Thanks, Robert
Guest sullivanpt Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Sorry all, I don't have the new verison put together yet -- wife and baby are still demanding lots of time, (go figure, you'd think they'd understand what's really important ). I have your lists of requests and I'm slowly adding them in. Patrick
Guest stephen.gazard Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Keep up the good work - can't wait to be able to use it with my MPX 220. :-)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 What is the latest available version these days? Is 1.9 available?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 I was never emailed 1.9 then (purchased from handango.) I guess I should just re-download it from there.
Guest sullivanpt Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 What is the latest available version these days? Is 1.9 available? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1.9 is the latest and it was e-mailed to all registered users a few months ago. If you don't have it, are registered, and want it, please ask!
Guest robinmk1 Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I have been trying to get rid of the 'No upcoming appointments' text with no luck!! I have just read all 12 pages incase i missed anything. I have tried setting the 'show-noevent' to 'false' and this has no effect. I have also tried deleting the 'No upcoming appointments' text from between the tags but when I try and reload the homescreen to pick up the changes, it won't load and the phone crashes! I don't use my calendar much and I could live with the 'No upcoming appointments' message, but what is really annoying is the fact that it jumps out of line and screws up the look of my homescreen! Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers
