Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Hi guys, I'm new here. I just got an i-mate sp2, which I have found out is the same as the htc voyager, o2 xphone, etc. Anyway, my problem is that every time I try to transfer a song (no matter what format, mp3, wave, WAV) the phone will accept it ( I use bluetooth for that) and when the transfer is complete, the phone will ask me if I want to save it, and I press YES, and then the file disappears. I have searched for it through all the folders in the phone, and looking at the memory status at the Space Maker, I confirm that no file has been added to the phone. Why is that? If I put the file on an SD card, then I can play it, the phone will recognize it, but if I try to copy the file to the phone, then it won't let me do that. It allowed me to copy a small mp3 file (22.1 kb) as a ringtone from the SD card to the phone's memory, but if I want to do that with a regular file, it won't allow it. I have tried WAVE files as small as 500 kb, and still the phone will ask me to save it, I'll do it, but then the file just doesn't appear on the phone's memory. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Guest Palindrome Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 Welcome to MoDaCo. It's better to store as much as you can on an SD card as the phone will run better with lots of free phone memory. Are you transfering music files to use as ringtones, or just to play using Media Player? Also, have you OTA application unlocked your phone?
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 hi, thank you for your reply. the phone is SIM unlocked, but I don't know about the application thing, how can I check that? As for the files, I use them for both plain listening and for ringtones. the funny thing is the phone will accept certain size for direct transfer, as I said. Today I tried to transfer a 375 kb picture, and it didn't come through, but smaller files are beamed just fine. I went to the imateclub. com website, registered my phone and asked for customer support, the guy (or girl) told me that I should try to reflash the phone with the most current ROM, which the phone already is loaded with. If I do that, will the phone become locked?
Guest Palindrome Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I don't know if reinstalling the update (reflashing) will Sim lock your phone, but I'm sure someone will be able to inform you about that. You could try application unlocking your phone, click --> OTA <-- for instructions. In anycase, I would recommend storing music files on your SD card (if it's big enough, of course) as taking up phone memory is not a good idea. I believe there is a app that will allow you to use ringtones from your SD card, but as I've never used it I don't know it's particulars. I've tried a search but can't find it. Again, I'm sure someone will be able to point the way.
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 thanks again for your reply. The more I tinker with the phone, the more frustrated I get. I just tried to assign mp3's as ringtones, and the phone will not use them. When I get to the "sounds" menu to try and change the ring tones, it will not identify any of the files I have loaded. Neither will it add any mp3 to a contact for custom ringtones. I tried to do the app unlock, but the website doesn't recognize my imei, and when I tried to use the orange register app, it won't start on the phone, most likely because this phone is not an orange one, I actually think it came unlocked from the factory, since it doesn't have any company logo or customization in it. I can't even find where the ringtones are stored.. the My Sounds folder doesn't contain any of the files that the system identifies as ringtones.
Guest Palindrome Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 Sadly MP3's can't be used for ringtones, only wav files. When converting your MP3s into wavs it's a good idea to lower the quality and make them mono. You can't really tell the difference between with the lower quality ones, and the speaker in the phone is mono anyway, so a stereo ringtone wouldn't be much use. You can also do a registry tweak that will allow a ringtone to be looped seemlessly.
Guest squall Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 You can also use wma files as ringtones these are similar to mp3, but slightly smaller
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 thanks a lot both of you guys! I recently discovered the sad truth, like sugarcubes? (hehehe  ) says, the phone only uses wav files as ringtones, and of course, midis (not even wma files Ian, that's a shame) Like I said before, I looked for help also on the clubimate.com website, (they are cool, even offering chat support) and the two techs I chatted with told me to reflash the ROM on my phone to fix the thing with the large files not beaming correctly to the phone. Now I only have to download the file, which tips the scale at 15 megs.... gotta go to a hotspot, since 56k connections like mine are timed out "for security reasons"... Anyway, I hope that fix this problem with those files. On to another question now: can't this phone send files i.e. pictures, ringtones... through bluetooth? I took a couple of pictures with it, and when I tried to send them to my PC, I encountered that the only option was to send it through email. I had the BT turned on, but still, the only sending option was email. Do you guys think it's also related to the other problem? Because like I said before, I'm getting frustrated with the phone, I love most of its features, but at the same time, it has some unbelievable shortcomings, which I'm not yet sure are native to the phone, or just caused by a screwed-up ROM. Thank you again!
Guest Palindrome Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004  Bluetooth can be used in (at least, as far as I know) two ways. Sending files to another bluetooth enabled phone using software, such as Smart Explorer. And connecting to a computer using Activesync. I use bluetooth as a replacement for a the cradle that came with the phone. If you want to send pictures to your PC using bluetooth you would have to connect the phone to the computer using Activesync on the phone and transfer the pictures over using the same method as if the phone was in the cradle. If this isn't clear enough I'll provide you with step by step instructions. You will need a bluetooth dongle (a piece of hardware, ususlly USB, that allows a PC to link with a mobile device) if you want to sync with your phone.
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 thanks everybody for your replies and tips. I finally got bluetooth and active sync to play nice, so I no longer use the cradle, HOOORAY!! moving files around is the easiest thing, however, I have come to realize that the phone HAS issues receiving large files from other BT enabled devices, be it a pc, phone, etc. with active sync I don't have any problems, but let's say that my friend comes with this pic of a hot chick he just got on his phone  and wants to beam it to my phone, if the file is over 400-500 kb, i'm out of luck. I have no problem beaming files from the phone, it's just receiving them from ordinary BT enabled devices that seems to choke it. The tech at clubimate.com might have been right, probably it's a fault in my phone's ROM, but I'm just to lazy to reflash it. 8)
