Adding comments to homescreen ratings??

Ok how about if I add a sticky to the Homescreen Download section stating that to vote you must also leave a comment ?

This sorry episode is a shame, but hopefully a one off. I don't think it would be necessary to enforce a comment to accompany every rating, as it might put some people off just doing a quick click & run! :( But it would be useful to make it so that to post a rating below 5 required a comment to be added. I would assume every author would be like me, in that if it's over a 5 then thats good, and if there are no comments to accompany it, then thats no big deal. But if someone feels that a homescreen is below average enough to actually post a rating, then some form of comment would be of great benefit to the author - especially to differentiate between people's individual taste, and actual problems with the homescreen. I think that's why I wanted to open this discussion in the first place! :shock:

/.me thinks people rating a homescreen 1 without installing it (and 99% of the homescreens install) and using it for a few days needs shooting

i got a bit shocked when someone rated one of my homescreens with 10 (or something like that) i was flattered but its not 'that' good (imho)

my 'dumb rule of thumb' is if the homescreen scores between 5.5 and 8.5 its a keeper, and i follow the rules and only vote on a screen that i have installed

and i like to score homescreens in the following way

1 - 10 on artwork

1 - 10 on layout

1 - 10 on 'coolness' factor (clever bits and bobs in the xml, or cool use of plugins: rjhtml/rjshortcut/lcd etc)

1 - 10 of overall quality: this can include how neat and tidy/readable the xml is, does it install into a nice folder for the extra images, did it break my phone, did it annoy the hell out of me after an hour or not

then divide the score by 4 and round up to the nearest whole number

the 8 i gave silvertabs for example was 8 for artwork, 7 for layout, 8 for coolness and 8 for quality

but that might just be me living in a fantasy world where im a pillar of the comunity and my oppinion counts for something :)
