Guest Terry21uk Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 I had simular problem today. I wanted to send a ringtone to my friends SE Z600, whilst I got the the phones to speak to each other and my friend can send ringtones to My C500, it does not work the other way. When I tried to send a ringtone back, my C500 keep't saying the Z600 refused the link or there was an error. So I tried sending the same ringtone to My P800 and to a Motorola V600 and they both recieved the ringtone no problem. Strange!!!!
Guest panasiuk Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Same with me it just says device not found when there is a working device next 2 it... :?:
Guest jholland Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 do i need to ether unlock my phone or update any kind of software before i can send items via blue tooth? * ive installed smart explorer (no joy) * i bought my phone new from orange 2 months ago and was told the phone was already software apps unlocked and so havent attempted 2 unlock it myself.... * ive since spoke to orange who have now told me it is not possoble to send documents via bluetooth on the c500 :D
Guest Confucious Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Right, I finally decided to try sending a file myself. First Orange technical support really should learn the capabilities of their phones before giving out answers which, at best, are partially true. I tried sending a small file from my C500 (latest firmware) to a n*kia 7600using the latest unregistered version of smart explorer and this is what I found: 1) First attempt the 7600 2) Subsequent attempts the 7600 asked me if I wamtedt to accept the file, no matter how fast I pressed yes the C500 could not connect. 3) I then worked my way through the truly awful menu structure on the n*kia to find "Auto-conn. without confirmation" and turned this on. 4) Tried again and the file transferred. 5) Then spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to select a folder to save it into on the n*kia (I hate n*kias!) 6) I then tried using the built in file manager and it is still searching for BT devices - I will leave it a while longer but it doesn't look like it will find any. So in summary, it appears Orange were right that with the built in software it can't be done but it can be done with SmartExplorer provided that the other device is paired and able to accept files without confirmtion . HTH
Guest jholland Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 thanks a lot for your help, i will give this a try :D :D :P
Guest jholland Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 goin 2 check the 'auto connection w/out confirmation setting'....
Guest panasiuk Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 tsk.. Why cant they just be normal and let the phone use bluetooth?
Guest Confucious Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 tsk.. Why cant they just be normal and let the phone use bluetooth? That would be far to simple :D
Guest panasiuk Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 When I go on smartexplorer > file > send and recive > send via infared > waiting for device > no device found even when im paired with my nokia!
Guest fraktal Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 What we really need is a really, really, mind-numbingly simple app called "bluetooth file sender" that, um, sends bluetooth files, and that's it. you just select the one file you want to send, select the recipient from any in the area, and press "send". But that would be too simple...
Guest panasiuk Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Hell yer.. I dream of somthing like that..
Guest Scotty89uk Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 smart explorer didnt help with me, i still have the bluetooth problem with C500?!?!
Guest jacoch Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 When I go on smartexplorer > file > send and recive > send via infared > waiting for device > no device found even when im paired with my nokia! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We are thinking about such an application. But regarding file transfer over BT, it's a big problem. We have spent hours here at Binarys to have this working properly (SE includes some work-around that are not available in default file explorer). But there is two major problems: 1. Smartphone 2003 obex API are buggy. For example, it's not possible to send a file to a device that ask for authentication when a file is recevied. It can ask for pairing, but authentication will fail. There is also troubles with some devices when asked for encryption (although it works fine with others). Finally. transfer will fail to some old devices that ask for a small MTU (smaller than 512 bytes). Obex API will continue to send bigger packets. That's why there is an option to activate full speed in Smart Explorer. By using a smaller buffer, we are able to force Obex to send smaller packets. But as it's not possible to get the value of the negociated MTU, the user choose speed manually. Note that in version 2.1 (actually in beta) there are some changes in this process (full speed is by default and can be changed in the device selection dialog). 2. Some devices are not fully obex compliant. Nokia is for example not known to follow exactly obex protocol (problem does not appear with all models). As for as I know, there is less troubles with SE phones. Regarding problem with 7600, I don't think Obex API are faulty. It could be useful to have test and know why the connection is refused. But if you try to send a file to Windows XP laptop, that also ask for a confirmation before accepting the file, there is no problem. Smart Explorer will wait for the acceptance and continue once accepted.
Guest Terry21uk Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I think (maybe) the reason I could send ringtones to the P800 and V600, but NOT the Z600 could be becuse of the type of file I was trieng to send. The P800 excepted both the WAV. & Mp3 file version of the ringtone. The V600 only excpted the Mp3 file version & the Z600 did not except any version at all!, Even though the tranfer between phones started, it quit after a couple of seconds.
