Guest jasonh Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 I don't know if it's just me, or if this problem is the same as mentioned before. But the program doesn't seem to "follow" the profiles selected. The sms tone is extremely loud even though I have turned it down in phonesettings. And when I select the vibrate profile, also in settings, it doesnt work.. The only function I need from the program, is a picture appearing when a message is recieved, and being able to read the message preview :-) The sounds and profiles I want to manage in the "normal" way.. is this not possible? But I really like the program, it is the only one I actually paid for ;-) TKJ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi There, A couple of things. Can you tell me what you change exactly in the phone settings to adjust the volume? And when you say it doesnt "follow" the sound profiles, are you talking about the profiles "Normal" and "Loud" for example? Also, what do you mean by the vibrate profile? Are you refering to going into Settings -> Sounds -> SMS Message and setting it to vibrate? When SMSNotify is installed, it overrides the device for SMS Notifications, it still does the same functions , its just you must go into the GUI to set sound notifications. If you want to have just one tone for all, do not assign any custom tones to any contacts, go into SMSNotify , Click OPTIONS -> SETTINGS -> APPLICATION OPTIONS and click the Tone menu button. From here you can set the default tone to be played on all SMS Messages that do not have a custom tone assigned. If you are looking for a global vibrate on SMS, We are releasing a free plugin soon which does just this. Regards Jason

Regards Jason <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've reverted back to using version 2.0, as this version follows the device notifications. It just provides a useful sms count and picture display for specified users. Version 2.2 is very nice, but I don't like how it marks messages as read and they are no longer handled by the phone's message system. It would be good if you could select if the phone still handled the messages or not, like it does in version 2.0.
Guest MPJ Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 I will take this time to ask you, the consumers what new features you would like for SMSNotify 2004. If there is something that you would like added, post it here or email [email protected] and we will consider for a future release. As long as you dont mind upgrades we are more than happy to implement. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just a note. I am registered blind and like programmes that display pictures when calls come in and now when an SMS comes in as a picture is easier to recognise that a number. What I have found useful is altering the HTML templates. I have set up the prgramme to show a picture and to display the actual SMS text in a very large font (can't get the senders name to go big, never mind). I don't know if you would want to make a selling point out of this feature, not only blind people but others may find it useful to have a larger font for reading text messages (of course, writing them is another matter!) It would be good if the prgramme could identify senders from not only their number, but also the name that sometimes comes through in the number field, such as you get with travel alerts or new email notifications. Just for the record, I am running it on a SPV C500
Guest TKJ Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 I am sorry my english isn't that great ;-) Hi There, A couple of things. Can you tell me what you change exactly in the phone settings to adjust the volume? And when you say it doesnt "follow" the sound profiles, are you talking about the profiles "Normal" and "Loud" for example? I adjust the volume in settings/profiles/and then fx Normal. It doesn't seem to matter if I set the volume to 1 or 4, the sms tone is still so loud that it sounds horrible :-) Yes, those are the profiles I mean. The profile I have the most problems with is a profile, where all tones (ringtones, sms tones, messages and alarm tones) vibrates. It is very funktional when I'm at school.. The problem is, that is doesn't work after I installed the new version of SmsNotify.. If I am the only one with this problem, its probably not the program, but the phone..!? Also, what do you mean by the vibrate profile? Are you refering to going into Settings -> Sounds -> SMS Message and setting it to vibrate? Yes sort of. As I said, I have a profile that only vibrates. That means that I don't have to change anything in Settings/sounds/sms message. I just choose the vibrate profile, instead of fx the "normal" profile. It did work before.. Hmm.. I don't find it all that great that I have to go into the program everytime I want to change the profile.. isn't that what this means? Since I only want the phone to vibrate when I choose the vibrate profile and not all the time when I recieve a message. What happens if I have like 10 different custom tones, do I have to change them all when I want the phone to vibrate only? ;-) I'm sorry if it's just me not getting this.. Maybe I should just go back to the "old" version, that didn't override the phones notifications (or the chosen profiles) I think? TKJ

Version 2.3 has an option to override this behaviour so it will leave it as unread. Can you expand by what you mean having the phone still handle the messages? Is this in regards to the sound notifications? I will read the other posts and investigate. Edited January 21, 2005 by jasonh
Guest jasonh Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 TKJ and others. I will investigate the profiles and post back findings.
Guest hollinshead Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Version 2.2 introduced the option that when the contact display was used to popup a contacts image, it automatically marked the message as read. Version 2.3 has an option to override this behaviour so it will leave it as unread. Can you expand by what you mean having the phone still handle the messages? Is this in regards to the sound notifications? I will read the other posts and investigate. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In version 2.0 it pops up a preview of the message with a picture, but if no tone is specified it applys the profile tone and or vibrate as specified in the sound settings of the phon It leaves the message as unread, so you get the new message icon on the top bar of the phone, and if you go to the home screen you can press message and it opens the inbox. I have tried using version 2.2, but what I have found, and I'm not saying its any fault of the software. Sometimes the popup dissapears, so if you look at the phone, you have no way of knowing you ever got an sms. If it is still marked on the phone as unread then you can see you have a message, even if for some unbeknown reason the popup decides to go away as has happened to me several times. Usualy when it is left for a while. I like the features of version 2.2, having a popup for every message is very good, if it could have the option of letting the system deal with it with regards to sound profiles and not marking the message as read as soon as it is recieved as version 2.0 does it would be amazing. I have started using 2.0 again because for me 2.2 was causing me too many problems, where I would get a message and never know about it. Maybe its just my phone that is strange, I don't know, but version 2.0 does what I want.

It observes the notification levels ( Off,1,2,3,4,Loud ) so the SMSNotify tone level will play at a level that is set by these. The contact display no longer, by default, marks messages as read. Though this can be changed if desired in the registry. Also new events (override spam guard content filter, mark message as read, delete message and disable photo popup ) can now all be applied per user. 2.3 also introduces a stealth mode. that is, if active, no events occur, no tone, no message envolope in the tool bar, and no dialogs. This is a global setting If you guys can test out the sound settings, if its all good Ill release public. Jason

Guest jasonh Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 (edited) Just an update Version 2.3 is nearing its final stages of testing. Based on feedback from some testers, it should be released later this week. Version 2.3 will be available in the following flavours (Generic - For ORANGE users who unlock their device) (Verizon - For Verizon SM2003 mobile devices only) (M2M - For networks who have MS Mobile2Market certificates in their devices) As always, all current users who have purchased SMSNotify 2.0 or greater are able to get the 2.3 version, free of charge! New in the 2.3 release will be as follows 1) Sound Profile awareness ( Now plays tones at levels Silent,1,2,3,4,Loud ) as set in the profile for Notification Volume 2) Does not mark messages as read by default when the photo popup is displayed. (Can be overridden by changing a registry key if desired) 3) New Events – Mark Message as Read, Delete message, Override SPAM Guard global Content Filter, and disable photo popup, all per user settings. The disable photo popup is useful if you have the show popup for all contacts but do not want it to appear for some messages. 4) Stealth Mode (In Settings -> Application Options) if active, ALL incoming messages are marked as read, no dialogs will be displayed and not tones will sound. It is exactly what it states, Stealth. 5) New Code which fixes problems that some users had when the GUI was reading the contacts. 6) New Default Template for the Contact Display 7) Added more events to filter the contacts by in the SMSNotify GUI App. 8) Changed the menu structure around a bit. 9) Added an “Unassign User” menu option. If selected it will completely remove the user registry key and from the SMSNotify user database. 10) Ability to handle INBOX bug , SMSNotify will now pick up senders with short numbers, such as a voice mail from a sender of '05' etc. Will post when released. Guest fozzie Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Sounds great. Did you manage to fix the contact reminder bug that I had where the senders name and a whole load of extra characters & symbols were being displayed?

Did you manage to fix the contact reminder bug that I had where the senders name and a whole load of extra characters & symbols were being displayed? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldnt reproduce it. Does it happen all the time? only on certain contacts? how long are the contact names? Any info would be appreciated.
Guest fozzie Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 It happens all the time, with all contacts, regardless of name length. It's doing it right now with 'Me' as the contact.

Guest TKJ Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 I have testet the new version for just one day, and I like it :D New in the 2.3 release will be as follows 1) Sound Profile awareness ( Now plays tones at levels Silent,1,2,3,4,Loud ) as set in the profile for Notification Volume This works without any problems in the new version, so my first problem with the sms tone being extremely loud is solved :P 2) Does not mark messages as read by default when the photo popup is displayed. (Can be overridden by changing a registry key if desired) This also works.. but.. It seems a bit strange, that when you reply to the message after reading it in the popup window, it still isn't marked as read. I don't know if it is possible to change only this or if you have to change it so that all messages are marked as read..? You wrote in the mail with the .cab file that: Marking messages as read is what stops all events being further processed by the device thus why you get no vibrate event if this is set up as your Notification Type in the profileAnd this also works in the new version. The "vibrate-profile" isn't ignored any more. So if I have to choose, I wouldn't want the messages being marked as read if this means that the vibrate profile stops working again.. 6) New Default Template for the Contact Display I like the new contact display :D These are the few things I tested, I hope it is usefull TKJ
Guest hollinshead Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 I've tested version 2.3 Everything works perfectly! If no sound is specified in sms notify it follows the system sounds and profiles perfectly! Once again excellent work, it could just be me but when you press one of the buttons to filter the contacts by name, if I press 5 it only filters J? Its starting to anoy me cos my girlfriend is called Laura. Maybe I should get her name changed to Emma or something cos that button works? :D
Guest spvdk Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Any news on v2.3 and/or the plugins?
Guest jasonh Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Any news on v2.3 and/or the plugins? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes, just completing final testing of the demo version now, then will sumbit code for final signing. Have had lots of feedback which is good, so 2.3 should meet the needs of everyone. Will hope to release in a day if the demo version passes.
Guest spvdk Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Excellent! Can't wait to get that 'new update available' email :D

Guest LittleScooby Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Has anyone tried using SMSnotify on an MPX200 upgraded to Wm2003? I currently have an MPX200 but because of all the issues with the WM2003 rom running on an MPX200, I have not upgraded to it yet, however, if I could run SMSNotify on my MPX200 with WM2003, I could hold on to my MPX200 for another year or so. The reason I want to use SMSnotify so bad is because I have a ton of network software that can send alerts and I wanted to associate each alert with a different SMS ringtone so I know when things on the network are done, like backups, virus outbreaks, downed servers, etc. If anyone has tried SMSnotify on their MPX200, please let me know how it works. Thanks.
Guest MPJ Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 A nice feature would be the option to delete an SMS from the notify screen without have to actually go to the inbox
