Guest stevewooding Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 (edited) I called OCS about 30 mins ago and they'll be replacing my handset (again - this will be no. 5!) via courier tomorrow. I queried about the £15 fee that you've mentioned and apparently it's a clause in the Orange Care terms & conditions that they reserve the right to charge it depending on how many claims you've made. However, I pointed out that this fault is not an insurance claim for damage etc - it's a manufacturing fault, which should be covered under warranty. I didn't get much further at this point, so I suggest you call them again and this reitterate that screen dust issue is a warranty claim NOT an insurance claim. If you don't get any further, ask to speak to the OCS supervisor or send me a PM and I'll see if I can do anything more... Steve. Edited March 10, 2005 by stevewooding
Guest swam Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 yo, I should be either on monday or tuesday next week receiving my 3rd handset as the dust is back, once again. I have specified that I want a 3rd generation handset or this problem will occur over and over again, so we will see what they say. cheers Sam
Guest sgannon Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Got my C500 back from HTC today. Not a bad service as I posted it Special Delivery last Friday and they got it on Monday. Same phone back, still got all the contacts and apps intact. I did think they had left dust in it but it was just some dust trapped under the protective screen cover they put on! Lets see if this stays dust free..
Guest tudor Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 First specks of dust appeared after a week since I've got my C500 back from HTC :D I'm going to send it back. It seems that they don't apply whatever "3rd generation" solution they have
Guest stevewooding Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 (edited) Its all a bit of a sham :D Yes, I agree - it is a shame (I took the liberty of correcting your spelling.) Steve. Edited March 13, 2005 by stevewooding
Guest Fizz_daz Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 HOOORAH phoned orange... Within the last week a fault code has been put on the sytem for this. Also apparantly according to the call centre ALL the old handsets have been sent back to the manufacturer and replaced with the 3rd generation ones... It is not an insurance issue it is a manufacturer fault and is covered if your phone is less than 12 months old!! She also told me to tell everyone with the problem to report it as they will be replaced FOC!! Mine is coming tomorrow... I'll wait and see if the so called fix is ok and they are 3rd generation though.... :?: RESULT... thanks to all who have laboured to get this sorted.... :D
Guest nickb23 Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 I too also spoke to orange, who are replacing it for a new one tomorrow. They are very aware that some people might SAY they have dust, when they dont. The lady on the phone said that if it turns out not to have dust, they will charge me for the new phone. I assured her it does, and also took pictures (with macro feature) incase they come back saying it doesnt. NickB
Guest illuminatus Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 (edited) My spv c500 has dust issues as well. and i like Bronsky, its good to have a rant , and get it out every now n then :D hehe hope this issue really gets sorted. I'll try ringing orange and and what they say. Steve did bronsky mean sham as in 1. Something false or empty that is purported to be genuine; a spurious imitation. 2. The quality of deceitfulness; empty pretense. Not genuine; fake: sham diamonds; sham modesty. or shame? I read it as sham therefore no sp mistake. (i thought id take the liberty and mention it) :D Edited March 14, 2005 by illuminatus
Guest tudor Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Sham it is! It wouldn't even accept a new case booking with HTC. They sent it only cleaned and with a faulty keypad, and I want to send it back. I filled in all the data online and I click the final button to submit it and get my case number, and it doesn't do anything!
Guest Pondrew Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Tudor, if you've got dust under the screen speak to Orange, if you haven't what's the problem? If you're saying it came back with a faulty keyboard I'd give them a ring and I'm sure they'll arrange to have the handset back for repair.

The keypad has a few loose keys - that's how it came from HTC. I'm trying to book a case - it doesn't work. I called them about 6 times and nobody called me back. They don't even reply to e-mails.
Guest bronksy Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Ahh.. Just to clarify, I DID mean Sham. I loved that little bit above where you're all trying to figure out what I really meant. I still think it's great that 90% of the folks here are so delighted with their handsets they're happy to accept something as utterly utterly pathetic as basic manufacturing defects. Perhaps HTC only use their phones in sanitised dust-free environments. :D
Guest sgannon Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Well, surprise. It remained dust-free for a whole 3 days before a large speck appeared on the left side of the screen. Just one speck but it's a biggie. I'll wait 'til it fills up a bit and take Orange up on their 3rd-gen swap. That'll teach me for being optimistic. Got my C500 back from HTC today. Guest cold_fire Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Just e-mailed Orange Romania and Uk about my dusty SPV C500 , i want the problem fixed but i do not know if it will , i am from Romania , you UK guys have more chances than me , but i won't give up , it is not acceptable for such a phone 2 have such a stupid problem .
Guest tudor Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I've managed to speak to a guy from HTC and I've sent the phone back to them. It's the first time they have answered the phone in my history of calling them, but the guy was really helpful - his name is Tim Morvan - thanks Tim! He said the dust problem should not come back and that they have applied the "3rd generation" remedy... This worries me and I wonder if the 3rd generation phones from Orange will be the same. Please report here if you've got one.

Unless the Orange-supplied ones are just 1st / 2nd gen recons. I spoke to Tim too. He was very very helpful, which is what made me optimistic the issue would be resolved. Guest whitty Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 How bad is yours? I know that ciudatelu got some serious dust problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Got my Phone back from HTC on Friday. Dust in top corner and now the middle fo the screen at each side after 3 bloody days. What a waste of £4 postage... My phone is unclocked so I can use my Voda sim too.... Didnt really want to get it replaced as it would mean unlocking again.... You cant buy owt these days

Guest whitty Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Im gunna ring HTC again and ask them exactly what they can do, then if all fails I want to know for definate before I get mine changed from ORANGE that the 3rd gen ones def are OK. Not spending £20 to unlock everytime

Wish you the best of luck mate. I have to admit, I overlooked this whole dust issue problem but it is worrying me now. It was easy to resolve with my old 6610 as the covers were removable but thats obviously not the case with the c500. I just ordered a silver c500 from Orange on Sunday and it's scheduled to arrive on Thursday. Is it likely that this will be the 3rd Generation? :?: tzk
Guest bronksy Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Is it likely that this will be the 3rd Generation? .....about as likely as me getting my foreskin back
Guest bigfootpete Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Well - my phone is less than two weeks old - and it started getting dust under the screen after one week! So looks like some old phones are still 'on the shelves'... Will take it back tomorrow if I get a chance...
