Guest tudor Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 But which generation is my phone once I've stripped it, cleaned out the dust, put it back together and then noticed the hair I left under the screen? Is this state the soon-to-be announced 4th generation phone? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is in a transcendental 3rd generation, suffering from the "hairy screen syndrome" :D)
Guest Sheepeh Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Hi, I sent my C500 off to HTC to be cleaned, and all appeared to go well... 15/03/2005 11:14:54 RECEIVED 15/03/2005 11:14:54 ON-HOLD 17/03/2005 11:12:14 OFF-HOLD 17/03/2005 15:01:20 REPAIRING 17/03/2005 15:52:16 REPAIRED 18/03/2005 18:05:13 FT_PASS 21/03/2005 11:15:43 PACKED 22/03/2005 14:34:51 SHIPPED But I haven't had it back yet and it's now the 31st! Send them an e-mail to mail_in(at)htceurope.com or call +44 (0) 8712230217 and ask about the status. If they don't answer, you can leave a message, or keep calling until they answer :D. It is likely that your phone will arrive tomorrow, as mine will (I hope!!!).
Guest bluesmudge Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Hi, I sent my C500 off to HTC to be cleaned, and all appeared to go well... Who do I have to talk to (email address preferred so I can keep copies of correspondance) to double check on it...HTC's website is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard =pLet me know how it goes - i wanna sent my sister's E200 off to HTC to get the keypad fixed. It's the same with my car. I bought a full featured car, it was not tested that much but it keeps letting in water when it rains. It's not a problem though. I LOVE my car so much that I will take out the engine, get some sealant, put some tape around the doors and then put it all back together again Dude what car did you get? anyway - i blow into the gaps (childish giggle) round the screen to disperse the dust which seems to thin it out and make it better - now im thinking that i should try sucking it out. what i need to do i try creating a total vacume round the phone. Perhaps by sealing it in a lunch box with a hoover stuck in the side **sends idea to blue peter** but sealing it is difficult with out gaffer tape - which i don't have. But if i do get round to getting some, im guessing that as dust is getting in the screen so is air, and its possible it will get dragged out by the air, though its very far fetched and hoover will have to be put under alot of stress as once the bulk of the air is out it'll probably start complaining - anyway i havn't tried it - and i thought up the idea in the pub - so if anyone gets round to doing it let me know - or if i do i'll let you know bluesmudge - yay now back in oxford

I'll let you know what reponse I get (and I *will* get one...oh yes...) and keep you guys updated on the "will it, won't it" dust coming back issue. Cheers Sheepeh
Guest gz5ztg Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I sent mine off to HTC a few weeks back and got it back. It was okay for a few days but now it has dust again :D
Guest tudor Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 It is likely that your phone will arrive tomorrow, as mine will (I hope!!!). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> @Sheepeh: Just to let you know that mine arrived. I hope yours too :D
Guest jbd_turley Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I do disagree with ur reply to the person that said that we should say that the phones are not fit for purpose. The dust does actaully stop you using it's features. I'm on my fouth SPVC500 now since sept 04 due to the others crashing. The green call button on the third packed up completely, stopping me calling people. This was due to a dust build up. The dust appeared heavily on all the phones I had, in the bottom left hand corner and also at the top left by the volume switch, as you all know. Fingers crossed you don't let it get as bad as I did. The fourth one is happily filling up with dust now like the rest did! The annoying thing is that Orange wouldn't take mine back before because of the dust. My dealer said that it wasn't a fault and that it was an aesthetic problem and denied they had had any other complaints, Yeh righto!. Why to organisations try to solve problems with 'customer service'. It's aload of rubbish, I'm sure they would save more money and get a better reputation if they just gave us all new fones or let us swop make. They can easily afford it, what with the mobile phone being as disposable these days a milk carton.
Guest tme Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 I phoned OCS yesterday @ 3.30pm, asked [nicely] for a swap-out due to dust problem. Replacement phone arrived 10:00am this morning. :D Great phone & great service from OCS.
Guest bronksy Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 yes but you just wait for the dust to come back! Has ANYONE got a dust free replacement yet??
Guest Sheepeh Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 @Sheepeh: Just to let you know that mine arrived. I hope yours too :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope. They haven't replied to emails or answered their phone yet either. On Monday, it's time to take this up a lever, it's fairly unacceptable to be without my phone so long!
Guest dversteeg Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Just to let everyone know I called Orange and said that I had a collection of dust under the screen and quoted that a colleague had got his handset replaced under warranty. Without arguement or issue the very helpfull woman sent a courier out the next day (a Saturday too!) and I'm now sat here with my shiny new C500! Well Done Orange!

Now to see if dust stays away...
Guest oasismark Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Rah! Got my phone back today, in it's nice shiney new casing! Now to see if dust stays away... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are they actually doing something to your phone to stop the dust getting in or are they just replacing it with a new phone that will eventually get dust in?

I don't reckon that you have to be a Jedi master to figure it out ') Use the insurance cover luke, use the insurance cover
Guest jbrare Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Got a warrenty replacement from Orange on Sunday morning (Good service!). My faulty C500 that I sent back for signal problems was totally full of dust after 3 months, it was just starting to effect the viewing of the screen. I bought it in November, cleaned in January by HTC totally full of dust by April!. Anyway, it's now tuesday and guess what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dust AGAIN in my C500 after less than three days!! JB
Guest bronksy Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 again..i think we all need to accept the fact that there are NO 3rd generaton handsets. Is there any more official word on this.. out of interest
Guest kryptonian Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Just to let you all know I called Orange today and stated that I was experiencing the dust issue again after having my phone replaced 2 week ago. I was told that they now know there is a bad batch of phones and if i have the problem again just to call up and they will replace it next day. My replacement arrives tomorrow between 6 - 10pm, her exact words were "WE HOPE THIS PHONE HAS THE FIXED ISSUE, HOWEVER IF NOT PLEASE CALL FOR A NEW ONE" :D So i'm now also going to be on my second phone - will keep you informed. :D

Guest tsutton Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 I think the talks of "3rd generation phone" is actually the new SPV C550 which is due very soon. I could be wrong, tho...
Guest Lamie Pie Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Has anybody received a replacement phone and been happy with it, my c500 has just returned from HTC and seems ok but you just know the dust will be back soon.
Guest Fizz_daz Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 my THIRD handset from orange related to the dust situation... it's back after less than a month... I will be on the phone again soon...
