Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Ive had a few 3g videophones in the past and have decided its of no advantage to me, however 3g data is massively appealing to me, much cheaper than gprs, but fast enough to use as a laptop / pc connection if there is no broadband. I often stay in hotels/ mess's which have no net connection, and the hotels which do tend to be wifi hotspots which is very expensive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Interesting, could you point out to some links with prices of 3G data and prices of Wi-Fi that would prove it? I always thought that (in EU) Wi-Fi is always cheaper... particularly because you don't have to pay international roaming fees...
Guest squall Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 when i say its more expensive im talking about bt openzone in the uk, i may stay in a hotel with a hotspot 2 -3 days a month. (BT openzone is the most common hotspot provider in hotels / airports in the uk) http://www.btopenzone.com/buy/vouchers.jsp from there you will see the prices for 2 days wifi access would be £20 http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/yourplan/totaliser I would much rather have a 3g data device and use it as a modem, that £20 could pay for most of my months data package. I know wifi is based on time spent connected and not data sent / received, but for my uses wifi through bt openzone is a pretty bad deal. If you were to take into account roaming charges etc you may well be right about 3g being the more expensive option, but i dont travel abroad much so its not a consideration for me
Guest alexis_winters17 Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 So, if the phone lock is on, and you're listening to your music and you're out and about...how do you change songs with those buttons? Are the buttons like the stupid volume buttons, in that they're independent of the phone lock? So...if something presses it in your pocket it switches song? And damn it, the volume on my C500 is still messed up after a hard reset!

Mine doesnt do it...very strange... That C550 looks nice...i will check it out when its released. My contract isnt up until then end of the year pretty much so hopefully by that time it will be out and some of the bugs will have been addressed!! If it does have 3G data then I will be very tempted.
Guest haroonsaab Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 WHAT IS CPU SPEED OF NEW SPV C550 ??? WILL IT BE FAST THEN SAMSUNG SMARTPHONE (500MHz) - SEE ATTACHMENT
Guest MikeS Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Any sign of a complete features list for this new phone from the newshounds or is it too early, surely if the planned release date is May they must be pretty close to actual manufacturing by now so what's going to be in the phone should be pretty much decided. For my tuppence worth, I would like to see is WiFi built in to the phone.
Guest Pondrew Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 WHAT IS CPU SPEED OF NEW SPV C550 ??? WILL IT BE FAST THEN SAMSUNG SMARTPHONE (500MHz) - SEE ATTACHMENT <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I DOUBT IT. AFTER ALL THAT IS A CONCEPT AT THE MOMENT SO MAY NOT BE GOOD FOR THE REAL WORLD. BTW, WHY ARE WE SHO... sorry, why are we shouting?!
Guest avb Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Looks like a really cool phone! My C500 is only 3 months old! The joystick looks kinda small imo?
Guest Dr Who Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 A music player, eh? Tssss. Tssss. Tssss.
Guest bronksy Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 oh wow a whole album on your phone, and with the superb headset they give you, a true device for audiophiles :D
Guest Nuri58 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Guys, Extra row of keys, display about double res and all packed in a smaller size than the 500c. Let's see it hit the street first. :?:
Guest xenophobe Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 It's NOT smaller... it's not as tall, but it is wider and much thicker.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 The C550 will NOT have built in WiFi... that will come later :D P
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 In comes Paul with the confusing reply, hintng at things that he knows that us mere mortals may only guess about. :D Paul - you're more fun that the Sun's cryptic crossword! Seriously, why can't Orange and HTC just get themselves sorted out and release ONE killer phone each year, preferably timed at exactly my contract renewal date? It just makes so much sense to me! Now, I got my C500 on the day the Orange shops got them, so how long do I want the C550 to be delayed so it comes out at the right time.....
Guest bronksy Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Wi-Fi built in would be the killer app for me. The we're talking true mobility...
Guest Dr Who Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Wi-Fi built in would be the killer app for me. The we're talking true mobility... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Might of missed something but 3G ain't confirmed, right? Without that it is completely pointless, just an incremental 'improvement' on the C500. I guess Pauls cryptic comment either means the SD slot is accessible so that an SD wifi card can be added or that mini-SD wifi is on its way???
Guest hunyango_uk Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 paul, you're reply sometimes really is confusing. i mean how would you know this things. are you working in orange network? or you have people working in all networks. hehehehe :D i'ts mindboggling, everytime you made your comment. but the good thing is i can rely to all your posts.
Guest ne0101 Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 hi guys, i suppose this size can´t be true! -> 90x47x25mm if u measure the pic, u will see that the device can´t have a height of 90 mm if it´s width is 47 mm if it has a width of 47 mm the height should be somthing like 108 mm so take a guess...
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 To how many people out there is the C550's killer application 3G?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 3G isn't the killer app, but high speed data is nice :D Sorry, wasn't deliberately cryptic... I meant the C550 won't have built in WiFi, but future models will! P
Guest xenophobe Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 hi guys, i suppose this size can´t be true! -> 90x47x25mm if u measure the pic, u will see that the device can´t have a height of 90 mm if it´s width is 47 mm if it has a width of 47 mm the height should be somthing like 108 mm so take a guess... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The picture actually looks like a C500 mockup of the HTC Smart Music Phone / (sp3i?) instead of anything really new.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Has there been any other hard evidence to back up the existence of the C550? I spoke to a guy at OCS yesterday who was unaware of it - hardly conclusive I know, but it would be nice to know if we are getting excited over nothing more than a bit of Photoshop.
Guest Pondrew Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 To how many people out there is the C550's killer application 3G? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For me it's having the same QVGA resolution of my MDA III in a Smartphone.... Oh, and OCS said the M2000 hadn't been released several months after it had. Don't even bother asking...
Guest amo Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Update on this topic: BUMP The C500s (Silver) is now available on ALL Orange pay monthly talkplans - no longer exclusive to Premier customers. This indicates heavily that old stock is being cleared to make way for the new C550, even though the newer modal is supposed to be an alternative to the C500. On a separate note, the MPX200 is now back on the shelves in Orange retail (while stocks last at least) for a measly £49.99!!!!! The camera's are also available as part of the sale range (not 100% on the price, but only about £15). Looks like the C550/M500 are definitly imminent! :D
Guest clw_5000 Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 hi, does anyone know if the mini sd card will be moved to the side of the phone instead of behind the battery and also will tomtom mobile work with this phone as it does with the c500?
