Guest CrazyDude Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 I recently bought a smartphone 2003 edition device and I just can't get it to hop on the GPRS network. Does anyone who live in Canada experience such a problem?
Guest martin Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Hi CrazyDude Here's a few questions that might help us figure out what's wrong. What network are you with ? Do you have a top centre G displayed on the phone's homescreen ? What error do you get when you try to connect to the internet ? What internet address are you trying to connect to ?
Guest CrazyDude Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Hi CrazyDude Here's a few questions that might help us figure out what's wrong. What network are you with ? Do you have a top centre G displayed on the phone's homescreen ? What error do you get when you try to connect to the internet ? What internet address are you trying to connect to ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I with Fido/Rogers network. And I do get a 'G' displayed on the top homescreen. The error message I get is: "Unable to connect. Verify you have network coverage and try again." When I contacted Fido about this problem, they didn't know the type of phone I was using (they are not familiar with the QTEK 8020) so they sent me a message with the details to set it myself manually. Here are the details they sent me for the GPRS: APN- internet.fido.ca user- fido pass- fido Dial-Up Access- *99# (for Sony Ericsson handsets, use *99***CID#) Now how can I set this up properly with Smartphone 2003?
Guest martin Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 The APN internet.fido.ca is for the GPRS internet service which you might have to be subscribed to on your network. If you get 'unable to connect' error then that is possibly the problem. You can also try the GPRS WAP (+WAP proxy) connection which should definitely work. Most networks now allow proxy port 8080 for internet access. Try this topic which will help with the setup. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=201047 Let us know if you get it working or have any further problems with it ;)
Guest CrazyDude Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Well, when I called them before I made this post, the woman said that I am already subscribed to the GPRS network (but who knows, people do mistakes, I will call them again to make sure today). But shouldn't the 'G' on the homescreen top center mean that I am subscribed? Or does it only mean that I am within the GPRS network coverage? I am not sure... Plus, when I spoke to the woman yesterday, she said something about Canadian and American versions of cellphones. She says that the cellphone has to be a Canadian version so that it can work under the GPRS network, otherwise it wont work at all. But from my point of view, if the phone works for calling and receiving calls, shouldn't it be already ready to hop on the GPRS network? (my device is a Tri-Band GSM.)
Guest CrazyDude Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Nevermind, I managed to set it up correctly this time and it works like a charm. But for some reason the MSN Messenger couldn't sign in saying that there is some problem with the MSN service. I hope this isn't a bug or something that needs a fix on my device... :?:
