Guest jtheodas Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Here's another tip for using PocketDivXEncoder. I use SmartRipper to rip a DVD to my hard drive. I think it doesn't matter what ripping software is used, a bunch of VOB files get created. They're usually named something like this. VTSXX_1.vob VTSXX_2.vob VTSXX_3.vob I've noticed that I can only select the vob file that ends in _1.vob. What I've done is rename every vob file so they end with _1.vob and then PocketDivXEncoder will let me select each one to convert. You'll end up with an .avi file for each VOB but I kind of like that because I just name them sequentiallly and then add them to my BetaPlayer playlist and they play sequentiallly. This also gives me control of which file I want to play so I can skip to different parts of my DVD. This is an alternative to using DVDtoOGM which encodes chapter information in to your .ogm file so you can skip chapters in BetaPlayer. I posted about this in another post. Good luck.
Guest muff Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 jtheodas - if you leave them named as original vob's you can create a single avi file from them - after all you can fast skip through a single file :/
Guest declank Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 OMG Just encoded the whole 24 series season 4 for my SPV Cant say how crazy it is watching 24 on my SPV. Very good sound and picture and with 256mb SD I can have 2 episodes at a time on the phone. Shame there is nowhere to exchange films etc... Give us a shout if anyones up for sharing on one of my ftp area's. Even thinking of hooking the sound to my car stereo via the RCA inputs on the back of the head unit for some passenger in car entrtainment. The C500 never ceases to amaze me. CLASS!
Guest declank Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 FYI 1. Download PocketDivxEncoder (FREE) from http://divx.ppccool.com/ - this has built in templates to convert movie files to those suitable for smartphones (just select the smartphone option when the app starts up). The converted file is output to a folder of your choice, you then just copy it to your phone and......Play it using Betaplayer which you can download (FREE) from http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/ - this plays most formats including DivX so you'll fit more on your card. Thanks to SIDEBP for this info. On SPV I set res at 176x164 so the whole screen is nearly used, quality 10 for video quality 6 for sound and an hour movies makes to about 105mb You can set size to how it should be viewed but you will lose some detail. For different smartphones check you res spec on google. Dec
Guest Maquina Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 Ah those were the days... I remember when the SPV used to get stuck in headset modeĀ ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm, my NEW Audiovox SMT 5600 gets stuck in headset mode. WTF is up with that? That doesn't happen on the European models anymore?
Guest usdiver Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 this sounds really good....But unfortunately, I'm a bit slow on these... downloaded beta player and tried to play a video on it...and all i got was slow moving footage and no sound. anyone know what i did wrong?
Guest declank Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Why do you need to put it in headset mode? If its the sound your after, I just simply plug in the headphones and leave it in standard mode. You still get perfect sound. D
Guest declank Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 US diver. If the video is in normal pc screen size, your mobile will struggle to constantly resize the picture and handle unnecessary data. Maybe thats whats also effecting the sound process. Have you encoded the movie with the previously mentioned software?
Guest usdiver Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I installed beta onto the phone, but not the divx... had sound and everything in normal mode...I will try the divx... thanks for the help...by the way, do you convert the file while on the pc with divx, before putting on the phone?

Guest usdiver Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Greeeeaaat, got a music video clip going...now all I need is a bigger memory card to do the movies... Thanks to all for helping me to get it sorted =D> :cheesy:
Guest renegade722 Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Hi all, I seem to have encountered a problem that no one has mentioned yet... I'm using only PocketDivX and betaplayer on my spv c500. I have succesfully ripped 'Withnail & I' down to a circa 120Mb file which I have transferred onto my phone and can play with no problems. HOWEVER... when I have since tried other DVDs, I have found that PocketDivX usually start to encode the file, and then either terminates abruptly after about 3-5 seconds, or leaves me with a file that comes out extremely large and very pixelated on the hard disk. I simply can't get my other DVDs, e.g. The Matrix, to convert into a file that a) is viewable on my phone, or :) is anywhere near the size I got Withnail to. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Can anybody help please...?!?
Guest mikeyp7771 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 How about using Microsofts Media encoder to convert the files. Does the job for me. 700mb divx movie comes to about 200mb using this. I also use it to convert my mp3's to wma so that I can have them as ringtones! Awesome
Guest mikeyp7771 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Also you can choose the correct screen size when encoding so it fits the spv screen perfectly.
