Guest Pagemakers Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Is it possible to modify the theme to allow text to in over the animation. I have tried and failed. The text just disappears behind the background animation.
Guest cold_fire Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 While I appreciate the work gone into producing some of the more interesting themes, there are so many free themes around now including well over 700 just on modaco alone so it makes paying for them an option I would never consider. I wish them luck on their venture but I'll give paying for themes a miss in favour of the excellent submissions we get here :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> U r 150% right !!! MoDaCo was ,is and will b the best site for homesreens !!! =D> :D/

So you only have that tiny area at the top of the page to display all your today info. Shame. Uninstall here I come :)
Guest PhoneThemes Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Ok I give up. I tried logging out and in again but I can't find any option to download the free copies to try. Keeps asking for payment and a cc Remove Description Platform Total -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PrettyGirl MSSmartphone $0.95 SnowMountain MSSmartphone $3.95 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total $4.90 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Free themes appear in your user order history table as stated on the Home page of the site.
Guest Madeye Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 No matter how many times I try, through GPRS and a pass-through connection, I get: "Making server request..." then "PhoneThemes could not connect to the server, please try again later." when activating the homescreen. I've only tried with SnowMountain (cos it's the only one I want) and I'm using O2 payg GPRS. Internet Explorer works fine. Help me please, I'm all upset.

Firstly there is no facility in the operating system to overlay Home Screen Components - so to do this we would have had to circumvent how the OS is designed to work. Although this is not an impossible thing to achieve the likelyhood is that the small processor on a Windows Mobile device would have keeled over and died as soon as we started dynimically compositing a moving animation for every frame (typically 12FPS) beneath other Home screen plugins. Basically you wouldn't be able to use the phone. As another point a phonetheme movie does not have to be the width and height of the screen - it can be placed anywhere on the Home Screen and be any size. This means that, for a good theme author, a theme can be designed so that the other Home screen plugins fit in and around th eanimation - meaning they don't have to fit into a tiny area at the top of the screen. The freebie themes were not the absolute best themes - this is true, I know. But we wrote PhoneThemes because we are a commercial organisation and if you were us would you give away the best themes for free or reserve them for sale? I know there is a balance between giving people useful and interesting themes vs. making a living and some people may well think we're got it wrong here, but we are also human! :) Jim
Guest PhoneThemes Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 I emailed you yesterday (or Saturday) from my AOL address. 1. The first 3 themes I tried failed to reanimate after a reboot. The 4th fired itself up only after I mashed the keys for a bit ! :) 2. From memory : "Activate Animation" displayed across (still) screen 3. Orange C500 4. 2003SE v4.21.1088 5. Orange with ROM 4.1.1.4 6. UK English HTH <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hiya Stu, Annoying and frustrating type of problem this as we've had thousands of successful installations but a handful of these - which I really want to get to the bottom of. It's interesting that it'll occasionally work and not just fail outright; when this problem occurs what does the device free RAM memory look like? I have a slightly updated version on the player ready to hand, can I email you the application files? Jim
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Jim Thanks for your reply and explanation. I have attached a screenshot of my current home screen. Every piece of information on there is valuable to me. For me , it is important that I can view the information quickly and easily. I love the idea of PhoneThemes, but if I can not overlay my information on top of the animations then sadly it's not for me.
Guest Chiz Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) Chiz : Can you get the animation going if you go into the programs menu and back out again (or mash the keypad for a bit ) ? Got anything loading at startup that might be conflicting ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Once the animation has stopped I can't get it going, even with if I "mash the keyboard". I have got the autokeylock installed but I believe I put this on after the themes and they did not work as expected before. I don't think I have anything else that could be conflicting. EDIT: deleted the keylock software as was going to install the newer release but forgot. The animation still won't work after the initial movement. Chiz Edited June 30, 2005 by Chiz

Chiz <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Chiz, You're just up the road from me (I'm in Kent) - any chance you can send me you email so I can reply with my number and discuss this over the phone? I have a couple of thoughts what this might be but it's difficult to test when the 10 WM devices I have all work without fail!!! Love software.... :) jimh_at_phonethemes_dot_com - replace the '_at_' with a '@' and the '_dot_' with a '.' Jim

Orange with ROM 4.1.1.4 6. UK English HTH <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, I now understand the problem! Thanks very much to Disco Stu for talking with on the phone over the weekend! The problem is actually a known issue. On boot up the phonethemes do not automatically animate. The reason is so silly that I'm not going to go into it; rather I'll just say that in the next release I'll fix that. The second problem is that I haven't been quite clear enough as to how to activate the animation. Just as with plugins like the SMS the user can select the 'Activate Animation' text. When it is selected the text becomes bold - it looks a bit like it jumps towards you a bit. Once selected click the action button - on my MPX220 the big blue one and the phonetheme will begin playing. I'm going to add this to our forum on http://forum.phonethemes.com as a commonly asked question. Phew! Glad it was a known issue rather than a new one.... Thanks Disco

Or this one for that matter? I've got more than 50 posts now and I've had about 3 replies, in total, since the first post I made. I'm not moanin (much), I just want to know that everyone can actually see them!
Guest vzk1kt Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I also have problems with PhoneThemes. I have Samsung i600 and i know that it is not supported. But I installed it just to try if it works and it doesn't. Now I cannot uninstall it completely. It leaves behind \PhoneThemes folder that has in it what seems to be a recursive reference to my c: drive. Another words when I double click on PhoneThemes folder in Smart Explorer I see a folder labeled \C: and when I double click on that folder I see another folder labeled \C: and so on and on and on.... This rendered my mapopolis unusable. I don't know what other programs won't run yet. Still have to experiment. Anyone has any insight? thanx
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I've no idea how to solve your problem but I would recommend you going onto their website and reporting the problem. From experience I know that they will be very interested in helping you.
