Guest zippy172 Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 ...vote with your feet. It's the only answer that Orange will listen to.
Guest RazorD Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Assuming that you're wanting to stay with Orange, you could just buy it from somewhere other than the Orange website/shop. It's free from those places on a £30/month contract. Some people have already received their from some of these suppliers. I'm hoping to have confirmation that my MobileShop order will be dispatched tomorrow. I'd avoid OSPS though if I were you they seem somewhat less competent than Orange when it comes to knowing what's going on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Trouble is, i cant get it as an upgrade for free.. I do wanna stay with orange (cheap GPRS) and with me moving to uni in a couple of months, £154.99 for a phone (XDAIIs/i) is too much really, the £99 just annoys me, because as you said, some places are doing it for free on my £30 a month plan. -Raz
Guest sleighty Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 (edited) I agree, before i upgrade i might speak to exec who are suposed to phone me today or tomorrow but i doubt they will as i have been promised call backs no less than 6 times and not received one. To keep me there i reckon they will have to either give me a large credit on the account or 1gb sd card and bluetooth headset cos otherwise i might aswell jump ship to t mobile where i can get the mda compact and 260 quid cash back and bluetooth headset and pay a bit more in line rental. What annoys me most is how little they seem to care about existing customers. i for instance get a credit each month of 3.65 off my bill. My average over 5-6 yrs has been probably around 80 pound a month at least. My girlfreind spends about the same, has been with t- mob about 4 yr and gets 25 pound a month discount. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've been with O almost since start.. dont want to leave but went to Trafford Centre tonight and couldnt get to talk to anyone at O shop. went to T-mobile and had to fight myself not to jump ship. MDA compact FREE + 200 x-net mins + 52MB data for £41/mth - about £15 less than my lowest recent bill. Why would I stay? oh yes.. I keep my number of course. add six quid for 100 texts- more than I need. Edited July 15, 2005 by sleighty

Oranges + O2's 500 a month plan works for me, T-Mobile dont offer anything remotely similar, which is why i counted them out. Maybe Orange Retentions will gimme a good deal on the M500 if i say im going to tmobile cause its free there :) -Raz
Guest sleighty Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I wonder who will get post #500 and will they have an M500 by then!? must sleep now. . . cant take anymore!
Guest Dade Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 If you guys knew how much these devices cost Orange and ideed how much they cost to make then I dont think the £99 price point is bad! Try finding a PocketPC with the same spec for under 100.
Guest NikLP Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 (edited) Yes but in general they have been 'sucking the phat one' over this issue, unfortunately... I'm going to (*sob*) hold out for a few days to see what happens. Climate doesn't look brilliant right now! Edit: BTW Carphone warehouse offered me an MDA Compact (T-Mobile) yesterday for £40... Edited July 15, 2005 by NikLP
Guest Dade Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I'm really disappointed at the £100 price tag :) Now i'm not sure if i really want it... I could go for the C550, bigger screen, good camera.. or for a £50 quid get a O2 XDAIIi or XDAIIs... oh dear :D I'm not good at decisions. C550, bigger screen? The M500 has the bigger screen.
Guest jonhitch Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I agree that for a Pocket PC this is a good price. This is one reason I was keen to get a pocket PC phone. However given that other shops are selling for less and T-Mobile are selling the MDA on £30 tariffs for free (!) it's a real shame! My contract with Voda isn't up yet so I may hold on a little for the prices to drop.

If T-mobile can do MDA compacts free on contracts over about £25 there's no need for Orange to be charging £49.99 on a £55 contract, surely?
Guest Davey Mc Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 They cost Orange about 250-300 quid for these ones, The M2000 is about 450. I know orange pay alot more from my time working there, but on the other hand does it really cost 10-15p to send a text. Orange make all that extra back in about 3-4 months of a decent contract. I think what everyone is trying to say is if other networks can do them so much cheaper why not orange. After all, Vodaphone excluded orange are the most profitable mobile network not just in this country but in europe.

Guest tik Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Fair point - but in that case you're saying that Orange are out to make a fast buck out of mugs like us who want this handset? You could make just as strong a case for them to be offering especially good deals at the moment to try to get early-adopters in on the new technology which has potential to increase their revenue from data usage etc.
Guest NikLP Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 True, but what price did the MDA start out at on T-mobile? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not wanting to sound like an arse here, but of what consequence is that to us as existing Orange customers wanting an upgrade? If we could go elsewhere and save a hundred quid, that's Orange's problem. If they want to compete they will have to be competitive! And frankly I think it's about bloody time they did, I get screwed over every time I renew my contract it seems to me.
Guest tik Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 on top of which - the guy i spoke to in retentions yesterday told me it was expected yesterday, & should be available today or early next week, while the girl i spoke to today (also in retentions) said there was no planned release date & she didn't think it'd be in for a while. Gotta love it!

I do believe that the price is somewhat high at the moment as it's a brand new handset. I'm also an Orange customer just like the rest of you and I have both business and personal accounts. I think Orange's policies at the moment are shocking.

Guest tik Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 "He who turns his back on faithful customers deserves a beating". Worth taking up with the Advertising Standards Authority?!
Guest pug205 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I have just had a call from OCS and they tell me that its only for Corporate customers at the moment, and that their web site will be modified to reflect this.
Guest Davey Mc Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 have you seen how many people have viewed this forum. Ireckon this will be costing orange lots of potential customers. I cant believe that even now its on the website staff dont know whats happening. Orannge dont deserve loyal customers. I certainly wont pay for the m500 after the way they have handled this. not when i could get the jam free. Still waiting fo my call back i was promised 3 days ago. I have called back 7 times upto now and still getting told we will call you back. Orange its time to restructure, sack the directors and put someone in changes atleast i shred of business sense
Guest soup dragon Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 (edited) Well I've reached the end of my tether with this upgrade c**p. Upgrades available towards the end of the month but at what charge I wonder? my money is on £49.95 I've cancelled my contracts (well turned them into PAYG) and have taken out a new contract through Coolsmartphone with a free phone. Orange are pants and if it wasn't for them having good coverage in an obscure part of wales I go to quite a bit I would be on T-Mobile right now. The uninsterested bloke in retentions did mention that I could port an Orange PAYG number to an orange contract, so I will probably do that to keep my number. If orange do decide to give the M500 as an upgrade within the next couple of weeks I will send the new phone back and just upgrade my existing contract. Edited July 15, 2005 by soup dragon
Guest tik Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 What gets me is the complete lack of consistency - it seems it's left up to individual members of CS staff to decide on a story to tell the customer. Meanwhile it's luck of the draw whether you end up speaking to someone in retentions who bends over backwards to keep you (offering excellent deals), or someone who's completely disinterested in whether you stay with Orange. Quite impressive really how they're managing to get it so wrong - and I do wonder whether there'd be any mileage in taking up their current ad campaign with the ASA, I've even had members of OCS staff scoffing at the idea that existing customers get treated as well as potential new customers. (I'd leave straight away myself but for having got a tariff out of them a year or two back that I think I'd struggle to match elsewhere)
Guest Davey Mc Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 there was a time when i used to recommend orange to family and freinds, now i would advise against it if they can get a better deal elsewhere. Its obviousy not just us who think they have gone down hill. they have stopped winning as many awards as the used to, the customer base is falling. the share price has fell from 3 yr ago. What are they playing at
Guest Hax Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Meanwhile it's luck of the draw whether you end up speaking to someone in retentions who bends over backwards to keep you (offering excellent deals), or someone who's completely disinterested in whether you stay with Orange. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I suspect that how much they want to keep you will also depend on how "big" a customer you appear to be. I very much doubt that any of them would be interested in keeping someone on a basic £15/month contract and who only ever uses the bundled minutes and nothing else - whereas someone on a £30/month contract who's bill regulary reaches £45/month will for obvious reasons be somone who they'd try harder to hold on to. Which is, to be blunt, just crap - as word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool. And seeing as people are more likely to share bad experiences than they are good (you hear about a lot more complaints and unhappy customers than you hear about praise and happy customers) a disgruntled £15/month person will voice their opinons to more people than the "content" £45/month person.
Guest I. C. Monsters Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 I'm really struggling here. I want that damn phone, and I would like to stick with Orange. I could wander into town today and get the MDA Compact from T-Mobile. Something is stopping me and I can't quite figure what it is. Surely it can't be any kind of brand loyalty, not to Orange. HELP!
