I spoke to a guy at Orange Upgrades about 6pm this evening. Was told that they are available as an upgrade - the memo had circulated their office around 2pm.

The phone was available at £99.99 for lower tariffs or £49.99 for higher tariffs. He suggested I ring back in a few days when my phone actually comes out of contract, as he was sure these prices were just standard in order to get the phone into the system pretty damn quick.

He was convinced that very shortly they would be offered as a free upgrade :)

Oh, and at the time [6pm) he said they were in stock!

It seems they have finally seen sense, I just ordered my upgrade from Orange. The guy had to log back into his terminal to get the latest upgrade list, but he finally found it and said it was available to all. Should be here on Wednesday.

Great, I called at 7:15 & was told that it wasn't available, only to corporate!

Called the orange shop on line (0500802080) & was told that it wasn't available as an upgrade. This was after I was mysteriously being cut off twice after mentioning "m500"!

I was going to call retentions but dinner was ready :)

My price is £99.99 and I'm on Talktime 120. The girl did say that the price would drop eventually, but of course we don't know how long that's going to be.

Oh well, my new contract phone (which just happens to be an M500) arrives tomorrow morning from mobileshop so it looks like I'll be using a new number.

I've put my old number onto PAYG, am I right in saying that I can then port that number over to my new contract? If so what are the timescales involved?

Ahhh, I suspect the answer to that one is 'No' - oh well.

Just rang orange and they told me the M500 is available for upgrade, however because I am on Everyday 50 tariff I was told the phone would be dearer at £200.. ..I think I will pass on that one.

I have bent over and sold my soul to the fruit.

I've upgraded with Orange. I had a phone call this morning from Scott at the Orange shop on Princess Street, Edinburgh - they had them in stock, and he remembered I'd been after one. He'd set one aside for me.

I popped in just after 5, had a quick play, and coughed up the full £100. I had gone armed with printouts from mobile shop, and was ready with quotes from Orange's ad campaign, but at the end of the day, I just wanted the ohone without the hassle.

Despite what i was told the other day when i changed to the family plan, it went through with no hassle whatsoever.

I decided to just go with it andlater I'll write a very strongly worded letter to orange to show how dissappointed I am, complete with a diagram, to be passed round everybody involved with the "Launch" of the M500. It's a picture of a human body with both the Asre and Elbow clearly labelled!

It wasn't really a launch was it? More like a dribble really.

The phone does look realy good. I'm looking for a silicon (ipod style) cover, but as it's a different shape from the qtec and jam, they may not fit well.

The standard cover is ok - but you have to remove the phone from it to do anything - thats a bit crap!

Dammit. I rang up at 12pm today, was told the standard 'not available, might be weeks yet' and advised to cancel contract and start a new one.

So I did.

I wonder how much of the blame for this should go to HTC? Just that it's not the first time shipments have been 'coming' from them for long periods of time without arriving...

...and contary to current popular opinion it has happened to both O2 and T-Mobile. For that matter, has anyone ever SEEN a Vodafone VPX or whatever they call them?!? :)

Totally off topic (well, ish) but, O2's XDA Mini.. I've seen so many refrences to it, but where exactly is it? :S

Has it/will it ever be available?

Thought it was already out there. Remember reading a post, here I think, about someone having to venture into O2 to have a play with an HTC Magician because of the lack of even a dummy M500 at the Orange shop. I've never been tempted to go O2 though as they seem to place quite a surcharge on their XDA brand...

Its definately not! Went into 3 o2 shops now, one in swindon, one in notting hill and one on oxford street... none had it in, nor does the website have it on there :)

Odd!

EDIT: I did some googling, looks like its only available to the far east 'initially' but that was quite a few months back

Don't know if this helps samandiain......

Silicone Case (Xda Mini/ HTC Magician/ i-mate JAM/Qtek s100/MDA Compact)

I know you were concerned about it fitting the M500, but it's fairly cheap - might be worth a try :)

I rang about 12 today, on 345 (small business) 8) and was told (by Claire :) ) that I could upgrade but they had none in stock so would I like a call-back?

How much will it be? I asked. Don't know, theres no price coz we don't have any in stock.

Doh!

Guess I'll keep on waiting, but if they ring, I'll be asking for PAC code first before signing up. Need a better deal now.

I moved into the 11 month of my contract yesterday... do you have to give like, 30 notice or something before you cancel with orange?

I'm not sure that anything is worth all this hassle, never mind just a bloody phone.

This thread is testament to Orange's inability to launch a new product properly. It happened with the e100, and the e200.

When will they ever learn to get it right?

I know what you are saying here but its hardly the first HTC handset Orange have launched so you would think past experience would tell Orange to order early and order lots!

It looks better in real life. The metallic grey is deceiving in the photos.

Its a minor upgrade from the original Jam, but could be classed as a 'Jam2'. Im suprised they didn't include WIFI in the original Jam really.

A gnome from dopod sent me their latest release 838 - smaller than the jam with VGA and WM5.

Mr D,

I too have just entered the last month of my contract, and I've just got off the phone to Orange. I just said that I wanted to give notice of closing my account, she asked why, I said M500. I explained that T-Mobile would give me the same handset for free, and guess what, my new M500 is being delivered to work tomorrow.

I was planning on going to the T-Mobile shop after work today and sign up with them. Lucky old Orange get to keep me for another year. :|

Now that looks sweet, or a good fake - could be a scaled down Blue Angel! :)

Probably very little or none at all.

Orange have managed to mess this up all on their very own. I hope it has cost them many tens of thousands of pounds.

You know that's what really really ticks me off.

I spoke to small business support on two or three occassions and said that I wanted to end my contract because I could get a better deal elsewhere (T-mobile) and they just said 'fine, bye'.

Where is the consistency???

As it happens my M500 from mobileshop on a new Orange contract will be here this morning.

Anyway, nice job IC Monsters at least you got some satisfaction.
