Just spoke to OSPS, and the guy was refreshingly honest when he said to me that 'We have no clue when to expect the handset, it's supposed to be this week, but til they turn up we don't know'

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

hmmm, I just spoke to them again, and they said they definitely have stock in and that stock has been allocated against my order. I should be receiving it either tomorrow or Wednesday at latest in case they don't get to work my order today.

It doesn't instill much confidence does it!

hard reset worked.... 3 days of installed programs lost :D:(

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Damn :D

Does the M500 include a program called "xBackup" like the JAM does?

I backup my JAM regularly using that app, so if i do need to hard reset, all i have to do is open xBackup and press "Restore" :)

actually yes... i hadn't used it yet though because i din't think i'd need it yet. ah well... it's actually worked out for the best because now i can start again from the begining but this time i have some idea of how the phone works before i start, rather than just installing it all willy nilly on the phone. :D everyone should try it!

Once you have it all back up and running, do yourself a favour and use the active sync backup tool and keep a copy!

It does have xBackup, but I prefer the ActiveSync backup

i've installed everything to the SD this time, if i have to hard reset again, will i need to reinstal the programs or will active synce back up take care of that?

No I'm nothing to do with Orange in that respect.

The reason there is so much interest in this device is that people loyal to Orange, for what ever reason, have been waiting for the M500 for many months. We all know that the iMate JAM has been available for a while but that costs money. At least with Orange the handset price is subsidised, in many cases the M500 will be free.

A lot of it is down to personal preference. I prefer the look of the M500 over the JAM, I prefer the colour and the squarer shape but I respect that many other people like the JAM better.

Hi Dade. Just wondering with your dealings with orange about the M500, have you heard any distant rumours about the M2500?

My order has the same status as yours. Just called OSPS to query both the offer that was listed for my order and the expected delivery date.

The guy on the phone told me that the offer listed was just the one that was on offer by the network themselves and that when I received my phone it would contain information about the full 4 months free line rental offer. If it doesn't then he told me to call them back and it would be sorted.

As for delivery, he told me that he didn't have a definite date but as it's a popular phone that they'd be getting stock most likely within a week. He also said that I should be getting an e-mail tomorrow confirming this :s

Time will tell I guess...

Yep, thats the same as mine, except mine states "being picked" since this morning. I was really hoping that it would be a next day jobby, but doesn't look like that now. Let's hope I'm right and it is in stock as it will mean we both probably get them Wednesday

I heard it mentioned about 3 months ago but then it all went quiet. I'll ask around!

Most applications will require you to reinstall properly as when you install things they often write stuff into the registry.

Just been told by orange upgrades that they do have it on the system under the business section however it is currently not available to me as a personal customer. Will have to wait an unspecified amount of time as the lady at the call centre had no personal release date.

Have been a customer of OSPS in the past and my experience with them was not good, when upgrading my phone, I paid an upgrade fee because I was upgrading prior to contract expiry date, but they still added on an extra 12 months onto the contract not from the date of my upgrade, but simply straight on after the expiry date - so i was effectively wripped off. This was not communicated to me over the phone when placing the order.

I am a business customer and I called Orange just a few minutes ago, and I got the same story, its available soon. I picked up a brochure from an Orange Shop today and its now listed as the coming soon, so I guess we will just have to wait!

As a business customer you should be able to order it now! Try calling back and see if you get someone more helpful.

What I can't believe with Orange is that you have to fight to order things!

There is something seriously wrong with orange, they are inconsistent and unfair with their customers. There cannot be a significant difference between the UK and Dutch market to warrant the difference in price/availability. In fact as a business strategy, making units available free in one country while holding them back in another where customers are begging to pay for them is suicidal!. I'm a business customer, spend £60 to £90 a month, I want one as a free upgrade - now.

OK I don't know if this has been said yet, but I could only be bothered reading to page 10.

I can confirm that the Shop side of things has had no mention of an M500 AT ALL.

No briefs, no pictures, it's never ever been on the upcoming handset lists.

That's why the only time you will ever hear someone know about the M500 in an orange shop is if they use the internet and look this sorta stuff up!

As far as the shop side of things is concerned, the M500 is a myth! Surely you must mean the C500 sir/madam!

Anyhoo, as from what I can gather, the M500 WILL be available in Orange Business stores...but not yet, and ONLY to business customers.

There are rumours that it will appear as available to the general public - but these are still rumours at present. Don't forget that the shops don't even know it exists!

Tell the truth, you'd find it hard to find someone who knows about the SPV 3G as well!

Just in case anyone is planning on trying to get hold of one in a shop! :D

Unless you already have one - cos it'd be a big shock for someone to see a phone that they didn't even know their company made! :)

Not strictly true, the time before last in an Orange Shop I chatted up one of the girls (she was quite good looking too) and she got the M500 up on the Orange Extranet and allowed me to have a look through the spec. So they have the means of knowing it's just the fact that they can't be arsed looking!!

last week orange were saying it'll be available within 1-2 weeks. this week there are no plans for release to non-corporate customers, and apparently 'coming soon' on their website means only coming soon for corporates (yeah, whatever). all fun & games!
