Spent a lot of time yesterday trying to install some pocket pc apps on the phone .. trying to see if any of them work ! Only ended up hard resetting my phone :cry: :roll:

I used the same trick to change some apps which are in French to English. Of course, not all the text can be converted unless all the text or "string definitions" are defined as resources by the original programmer.

I changed the menu items and some dialog boxes in iMeter app to English. But some text is still in French.

This is a bit off-topic.. But are there any other pocketpc apps that run on the smartphone?

Just noticed on the Microsoft Smartphone web site that there was a new(ish) version of the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys. The second (smaller) download contains the ActiveSync Remote Display app. Just installed it and it works fine, without having to install anything on the device, which I'm sure I had to do before?!

Not sure if this is new or not so shoot me as you see fit ;)

neat, I've not seen that before. Not much changed from the original one, except you no longer have to install or run anything on the phone. Just fire it up on the PC.

The question is, does anyone know how to set up a hook in ActiveSync to run an application when your phone connects? It would be great to launch this automatically when you dock the phone.

Some of the other power toys in this pack are interesting. There is a command-line utility to copy files to and from the device, as well as one to start processes on the remote device.

You could use these to do some clever things in PC apps.
