Guest yatpeak Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Can the 1st application be a way to add photos to your contacts so when people call it displays their photo? i would pay $20 ! Unfortunately not. If you want access to radio functions the program has to be signed by Orange, which costs around $600 I believe. One day it will happen, but not this time. Wyatt
Guest SirGaz Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Yatpeak That's the whole point of the money collection, so that we can put any developed software through certification.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Not the Orange one though. Read the thread to its full extent and you'll see that the plan is to buy Baltimore cert's. These only allow non-radio privilidges and are a lot cheaper. We are still waiting to hear from Balitmore before the next steps can be made.
Guest SirGaz Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 My mistake. I must admit that I haven't read through the entire thread this morning but I have read it over the weeks that it's been posted and I can't remember it mentioning that Baltimore signing doesn't give access to the radio part. I'm sure it does somewhere but like I said at the top, my mistake.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Take a look at Steve_Medin's posts (view his profile and then "search for posts"). He's a techie from Baltimore and clears up a lot of misconceptions about how certification works and is implemented.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Actually, I doubt you'd need radio access to do a caller picture app... P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I had thought of that, as you aren't actually making/recieving calls etc...., and MBoden has previously dropped hints that he's looking into it. Anyway, aren't we drifting slightly OT here? :)
Guest DamianJauregui Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 That would be right actually. After I tried to download the latest update the phone crashed after refusing to install it [the thing about incorrect regional settings]. I hard reset it according to the instructions on this Forum and now it's de-certified. How come Orange said that this is standard on Swiss handsets now?
Guest Myke Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 "]Actually, I doubt you'd need radio access to do a caller picture app... P Woohooo!
Guest yatpeak Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 "]Actually, I doubt you'd need radio access to do a caller picture app... P I hadn't thought of that, but wouldn't you need the radio access so that you could connect it to the phone calls? I don't know a thing about programming, it just makes sense to me. Wyatt
Guest Pondrew Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Any updates on what's happening regarding certification? Was the software certifying company idea done away with? Or are we still waiting for Monolithix to hear back from his contact? I've now got my phone de-certified anyway but thought it was a great idea...
Guest DaveR Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 I have a spare 300 quid or so available. DaveR [email protected] http://www.linuxlinks.com/
Guest TnT Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 With this freeware certification project it would also be nice to start making a "wanted software" list. I could fx. really use the following in stable, fast and certified versions: IRC client FTP client (that could download directly to the SD-card) Better web browser that could reformat pages to fit the small SPV screen WinAmp (or better yet, SPVAmp) :) A good explorer like the ALL explorer Full screen media player (with DiVX support ofcourse) Notepad Registry Editor Keep up the good work. Kind Regards, TnT
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 OK here we go. The last i heard from Baltimore was about 5 weeks ago saying to "await an annoncement". Well theres been nothing yet (other than MS's mobile2market, but thats a completely different story...), so i fired off another email this morning. Basically there have been "unforseen delays". Apparently something ~is~ going to happen, but due to the way the market is going its not happening as fast as we would all like... Thats is really, hold tight and cross everything, if we're lucky we might see something before "Ozone" is released ;p On a slight side note i did notice this in the small print at the Orange developers website: ... I'm going mad, earlier today there was a notice under the SmartPhone plug saying there had been "difficulties getting the SmartPhone developers area running, and had been delayed until March 31st". Its gone now though! Either way, Orange admitted they were very later and to look forward to more help for developers as of March 31st.
