Guest tonijj Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 I think we can take it as read that having GPRS permanently connected does affect battery life. I have gone into the settings and set the idle disconnect to 30secs. but this makes no difference. Are there just a few phones affected by this or many? Are C550's affected? Someone out there must have the answer to this :| <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the answer to why it doesnt disconnect automatically is the new ROM nothing else, nothing we can do about that :)
Guest Looby Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 Thanks, it is what I suspect too. I feel much better now.
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 I have WM5 on my c500 and i cant turn GPRS off, I have to go into flight mode, then out of it to get it off. Can't somebody make a little tool that can be initated on speed dial that closes gprs. It would be very usefull.
Guest Mr_Ultimate Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 Just press the Home Button for some time you will get a menu that has options to disconnect GPRS and Bluetooth. So do what is needed.... Regards.....
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 That doesn't work. Before I got WM5 yes it did. Now... No it doesn't. No... Im not doing it wrong...
Guest jimmel Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 :) Got a bit touchy before lunch I think ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry tonijj, I was just reading what you wrote ("... But even if you are, if none of your applications are sending nor receiving data, your battery will not suffer any major drain."). With my phone, that is not true. With all applications killed and GPRS still active, I DO suffer.
Guest thedr Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 Well Xenzo1990 the turning to flight mode and back is the only thing I have found that works on the SPV 550 thanks. It's not too bothersome with the quicklist. Is someone find a neater way post it up, but for now I'm happy with this work around. Thanks all
Guest Looby Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 This seems to be a hot topic. We have established that the GPRS can be turned off by the flightmode method or holding down the home key. I quite like XENZO's idea of an app. that allocates a speed dial. However, it seems to me that we need a patch so it turns off automatically as it used to if that is possible. As I said if you send a MMS you cannot tell now when it has gone, you have to guess and then check in sent-items. Also( hope I'm not boring everyone) it stays on when you receive an email or MMS. I feel so incensed by this that if someone comes up with a downloadable app. I will pay for a dinner for two for them

Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 On WM5 you can't actually use the home button, but you can set inactivity period for it to disconnect which i use alot. I think you know that it does disconnect when you press the call end key. But i think that the icon doesnt go. Maybe the tool could use the same disconnect function that the home button quick menu should give you. So you hold down lets say 9. The program launches and says Disconnecting GPRS. Then when its done, it closes aswell. Would be very usefull, but it yet a mere dream.
Guest Looby Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I am not going to let this go without a fight. Is it the ROM? As I said previously this issue ( how many times do we hear that word) only appeared on my new imate SP3i my C500 was OK. Well I thought I'd download the latest ROM with WMP 10 from Orange on to the C500 to see what happens. Guess what? It still works OK. ...so is it something else :??:

My older Qtek ROM was just fine, never any problems, but now after updating to the new one, the problem appeard. Conclusion; The new ROM. There might be a slight variance in the Orange U.K. Rom and the Swedish Qtek Rom, which causes this little issue. Honestly though, I dont care anymore, I just deactivate the GPRS with the Home key, not that time-consuming really....
Guest Looby Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I agree tonijj that I will have to live with this because the i-mate sp3i is such a lovely phone. However I am not totally convinced. Thanks for making such an interesting thread and I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this.... :)

Guest stroochy Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 My 2 cents: Beside battery life, I have noticed that when the GPRS connection remains active (if I don't manually "kill" it), the next time I use IE, none of the pages I try to go to can be found. Some kind of DNS error occurs?
