It will appear to solve the problem because you only see the outgoing message.

Try sending the word 'don't' to yourself. It will probably arrive as 'don?t' with unicode turned off. It does for me.

I turned Unicode off, sent a message to my Dad, and then checked his phone when I went round. It came through correctly, ie "don't" not "don?t".

Very good if you are in a place where you don't want to look a tit or get mugged, ie Nottingham pubs/public transport/streets/my office etc.

I have a question though - it seems very difficult when using the dialler to select a number to text, what is the best way?

Have a look for the D9 dialler (there's a thread about it no here somewhere).

Using that you can select a contact by using the number pad to select the first few characters of their name, then you press the "text" button to compose a text with their number prepopulated :)
