M500 Email Set-up

I have set up my new M500 for my Gmail account, and can receive my mail fine, BUT :)

I cannot send emails though.

I get a message " Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected, and that your email account settings are correct. Then try to download messages again"

AND

"Message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again"

As far as I know the account information is correct, as I say it downloads the messages perfectly well.

Am I missing something obvious here? Everyone else seems to be able to send/receive okay !

thanks in advance for any help

I'm using a different SMTP service with GMail, which seems to work fine

What "Outgoing Mail Server" settings do you have (post them here so we can see any potential problems - but don't post your proper username or password!)

One thing that may be a problem (I encountered it when using Outlook for gmail, although not on a phone) is that I had to change the port number for the outgoing ssl sever.

Gmail uses port 995 for the pop server, and 465 for the smtp server. I would just check that those are the ports that your e-mail client is using.

edit: having read another thread elsewhere, I think you need to put:

pop.gmail.com:995

and

smtp.gmail.com:465

for the server addresses.
