Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 I did notice that the battery was literally empty when I put it on charge, something I haven't experienced before (all my SPVs came with a partly charged battery). Don't forget that the phone has probably been sitting on a shelf for about a year so the battery will be pretty dead. As for the spare unit, if I had not just bought a new lappy I would have bought one for the novelty value and to increase me collection :)
Guest Pondrew Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Arrived at work to find the web is blocked again so using my MDA III to post (qwerty rocks!). Oh, and if anyones wondering why I'm not using the Voq its cos I haven't setup gprs yet besides which prefer qvga res on this. New problem... the sync cable didn't seem to fit properly, looked and seems the plastic in the phones socket is cracked + the plastic lug on one side has fallen out... Think it's gonna have to go back...
Guest fluffcat1 Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Since they moved their returns place out to Trafford Park the time taken to process returns has gone up somewhat. Perhaps to do with the volume of sales /returns they get. I still prefer to drop stuff back personally to their head office on Manchester Science Park* just to be sure - back when all stock was on site they would swop it there and then saving me return postage. A very chaotic place back then, I remember piles of boxes stacked up with various stuff spilling out over peoples desks. A bit more professional these days - and no more ebay sales from them :-( * - Just don't call it Moss Side Industrial Estate :) handit.de have spare batteries for 7 euros plus postage BTW. Cradles for PDA2k for 12 euros too. Minimum postage is 18 euros though. Going to order some stuff myself later, if you want just the 1 battery let me know and I'll order an extra and send it on for cost plus UK shipping. Richard
Guest Pondrew Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Cheers for the offer Fluffcat1. Will make do with the one battery though. Probably going to send the Voq for a replacement given the cracked socket...
Guest Pondrew Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Well, the Voq is all packaged up for return along with a letter explaining it's damaged but requesting when they replace it that they do so with the Voqmail version. For what it's worth, the signal on the Voq is better then any Smartphone/Pocket PC Phone I've had. And in my reading on it I find nothing but praise for its reception. Guess it must be due to the size!
Guest Pondrew Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Unsurprisingly the cheap Voqs have begun making their way onto Ebay. Decided to ask one of them what SUK number theirs was. Seems he got the same edition as I did (minus Voqmail). Seems you got very luck fluffcat1! Oh well, if Expansys can only replace my Voq with another of the same model it won't be the end of the world...
Guest fluffcat1 Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Get a refund and buy my 'spare'... Yeah, saw the ebay ones, some people have a cheek selling a £65 handset for £110...like those people still selling c550's at silly money. If people could only learn to use google  Did you get the M$ demo CD in the box as well? Virtual Pool mobile, Ostia, Cubis and Fizz traveller demos. Battery only just going flat after 3 days use - not too bad. Richard
Guest Pondrew Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 The thought had occured but I'll wait and see what they redeliver to me... Yep, got the demo cd. Didn't get round to using it though. 3 days is better then I'm expecting. One thing that surprised me was that when the keypad is locked the backlight will still come on if you tweak the joystick (unless you've turn backlight timeout to Allways)! This was a 'bug' on the original SPV, surprising after all the rom updates (and I get the impression no device has ever received so much support) that they've still not corrected that!
Guest hecatae Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=TODAYONLY it's back
Guest Pondrew Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Yep. Bargain price. Virtually giving them away. Good spec device too as has Windows Mobile 2003SE, Windows Media Player 10 (with album art and library feature), fast processor at 200mhz, GOOD qwerty keyboard. I'd like to recommend the device. Really would... ...but... ...gotta admit I've had problems with my Voq. Don't know if its unique or a problem they all have but occasionally it'll boot up with a message along the lines of "The program you are trying to install is not signed for, do you want to procede?" which is quickly replaced by a "Your device is running out of storage space" message. This would be fine but the only option offered (left softkey) is Unlock (as if the keylock was on) and it doesn't react to pressing it other then highlighting it! As a result the device is stuck on this screen. Activesync doesn't run, Remote Display won't connect, neither will Pocket Controller. Basically the device is locked solid. Everytime this happens the only solution is a hard reset and the loss of all settings/docs. :?: I originally thought it was Xbar causing it until it started happening without Xbar installed. My latest theory is it is caused when storage space runs out. But if so it's a pretty crippling bug as it happens WAY too easily.
