Guest hk Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Why won't that link work for me :/ *kicks it* *goes in search of a mirror*
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Worked for me :? http://www.smartphonefrance.info/usb.asp I know it's a bit late as you have done the mod now.
Guest m4rcus Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 erm, it says to link to pin 5... so am I right in assuming that the numbering on the pcb is no that same as the convention found on Mini USB TYPE B where the page states the usb pin 5 is GND... but pin 1 is +5 Cheers
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 m4rcus no need to crosspost I have answered your question in Help and Advice ;)
Guest jim80b Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Heres a new way... buy a usb cable, cut a end off, leaving a male end and 4 wires. strip the red and black and tape with insulation tape like in image 1. plug into phone cradle (image 2) plug into usb. btw the charging light is on in image 3 but u cant really see itDvc00003.jpgDvc00002.jpgDVC00001.JPG
Guest fraser Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Neat. Love the homemade connector, kind of thing I would have done myself a few years ago!! 8) Check out Maplins/RS or Tandy, they sell these kind of connectors for pennies.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Interesting ideas jim80b Only downfall (apart from the dodgy connector) is that you need to use 2 USB ports :?
Guest Stewie_UK Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 My hand twitched when I was soldering mine, got solder over EVERY track on it!!! Went down Maplins and got a solder sucker and some desoldering braid, phew it got it off (only had this cradle a month or so!) What worked for me was as a tip, to 'tin' the wire (by running it through solder on the iron tip), wiping the solder tip down so no excess of solder on it, then placing the tinned wire on the track and applying a dab (only little dab needed) of heat on top of the wire. Hope that helps anyone who's been in my unfortunate position!! (PS have been and got one of those retractable USB cables, EXCELLENT especially if you use a laptop on the move, you know how other commuters get annoyed with just a laptop on a train table, let alone a cradle with phone too (that can be swiped out the cradle if you dont watch it), this way I can keep the phone put away and still use it on laptop).
