Guest travisb Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Looking at Paul's map, a meet for my bit of North Wales could be held in a telephone box! Luckily for me I work in Cheshire during the week so if anything gets organised in the Manchester area I'll look less of a billy no mates
Guest Dade Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Paul, as discussed I can sort a venue if required.
Guest Alsicole Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 We're quite near the borders with Cheshire at Keele, so maybe we can work something that way.
Guest LadFromWales85 Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Wonder who's red dots they are around the Milford Haven area....
Guest muff Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) is it possible to convert the map to a user density map? means that if there are 100 dots close together we can actually see it (cool as it is, we can't tell from current map) is it also possible to overlay the mods as a separate colour dot? that way we could tell if the mods are suitably spread out to help organised the events :o Edited September 5, 2005 by muff

Guest Disco Stu Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 James, if your brother comes along again to take the photos you've nearly got enough for a table at MacDonalds ! :o
Guest nickcornaglia Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) Keep in mind that Modaco's name is attached to all of these events. Cocky is not the only theif in this world. Nor the only member who may have alternative motives of any kind. More may show their faces if there are no Official Modaco representatives at the events. But things aren't limited to stealing. Arguments and fights, being discourteous to the staff or other members at the event, or even something simple as technical disagreements that prevent the event from moving along smoothly. You never know what could happen. I may be going over the top with my examples but I'm just reminding that these are Modaco sponsored and ANY negative situation would be reflected on Modaco. The quantity of events and lack of "Modaco Authority", allows negative things to become a greater possibility. Even a lack-luster turnout than expected would refelct negatively on the events. What will be the big draw to these events? Will they be more watered down versions of the big event or duplications of other events going on at the same time. In short, will the events that Paul & Team are at be better than the localized events? Depending on the meberlist at each event, (ie. developers, regular users, in-betweeners) will reps from Microsoft, Orange, or other Software/Hardware houses be attracted to these events? My concern is that the the excitment of the main event may become watered down when spread across multiple events. Maybe a better suggestion would be to create localized usergroups with the Modaco name attached that could run throughout the year. (Every month, two months?) Users could organize their groups themselves and register them to Modaco...reporting back meeting minutes and items worth note. Maybe Modaco could create a forum/blog for each group to discuss/post meeting times, agenda and group specific items of interest. Modcao, in return could provide the groups with apps or hardware for loan once the individual groups become established and are known not to be a flash in the pan. Possibly even attending events from time to time with additional items of excitement. And once a group is established, then events could be planned for that area as a solid Modaco userbase is present there. Edited September 5, 2005 by nickcornaglia
Guest Pondrew Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 James, if your brother comes along again to take the photos you've nearly got enough for a table at MacDonalds ! :o <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :( Back on topic I do think Enence has a point. This shouldn't be allowed to adversely affect the main Modaco events...
Guest Samsonite Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 i do like the idea of local nanoEvents. Something where there is a focus to a meeting would be great. Even something like one guy (at least) bringing a lappie with a load of apps, freeware, trials etc that people can share and try before buy - that sort of thing. there is quite a diversity of people that post here and having a social event with chatting - albeit about the toys we have - being the main focus, i can be imagine it being quite, you know, awkward at points. having an 'offical' with the latest news and things would be very useful and also keep things regulated too...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 I think Samsonite has got the right idea, just a bunch of like minded people talking about MoDaCo related stuff, apps they've tried, tips and tricks, etc. etc. Less of an 'event', more of a 'social' perhaps... P
