Guest lspatricio Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 THis looks like a brilliant program, it gives windows smartphones the start menu they should have had IMHO. Will be watching with interest for when the C550 compliant version is out! Thanks to lspatricio for his hard work =D> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks kurtfhouse. I'll address the issue on the release version. :o

Guest lspatricio Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm working on the release version. Hope to finish it this week. I'll keep in mind your comments. For those interested, i'm working on displaying customized folder icons too. :o
Guest mobtel Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Cool thing that gStart! Really cool App. A cool thing would be to browse the icon- pages with the navigation button instead of the # or * buttons...but anyway, it's cool as it is now aswell. One Thing though: everything runs fine on my C500 except that I wasn't able to find any good Task Manager (like the bespoken SP Task manager). Any ideas where I can find (download) it? Thanx!!
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 SP Task Manager here: http://www.binarys.com/taskmanager_en.asp

Thanx!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can use the Navigation Sitck using (Left) and (Right) to move between pages while on List View Option. With a little bit of change on the programming, i'll see if using the navigation stick would work fine to move between pages while in Grid View. Thanks for your comment. Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 Same here. Can't view some LNKs inside Microsoft folder like Internet Explorer, ActiveSync, MSN Messenger...basically links to in-ROM files. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think I found a walk through for this. 1. While on List View, highlight Microsoft folder > Menu > Edit > Change Shortcut Order 2. Highlight Microsoft folder from the list > Grab 3. Move toggle bar up/down then Set 4. You will see this message, click OK 5. Back in List View, open Microsoft folder and you should be able to see previously hidden links :o
Guest rinehart07 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 thanks peter! it works! :o
Guest norelidd Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 cool program. already by reclaiming the 9th menu item, it helps alot. what i would really love, though is to have more menu items. the menu font could be made smaller to accomodate more items. one for every phone button, maybe. 1-9, *,0,#; for 12 total items. thanks again for a great program
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 thanks peter! it works! :o <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No prob. Im glad it worked. 8)
Guest lspatricio Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 No prob. Im glad it worked. 8) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nice work around there. hehe :o I already discovered the problem. I'll fix this on the first version coming out. Thanks. :(
Guest zabirp Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Being the plonker I am editied the reg key but forgot to back it up. :o Can anyone help me out with what the value is? Thanks. I've uninstalled the app so I get gstart.exe not found hehe. If I turn the phone on the start menu works, but once I use task manager to kill all, it does'nt work. Nice app btw.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Default value 1 = appman.exe -s BootApps :MSStart tpcutil.dll AMStart or this CAB file should save you from typing: DefaultMSStart.cab
Guest zabirp Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Thanks for that, copy and paste job for me, I use Mobile Registry Editor which lets you edit the registry from your pc. Thanks again, glad to have my start menu back.. 8)
Guest simon211175 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 great application, I have a problem and a query: firstly, when I reboot my phone, it reverts back to using appman rather than gstart - even though the registry setting is changed. secondly, when in list view - is it or will it be possible to change the solid highlight bar to a graphic?
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Hi Simon, Here is a walk through whilst no update is available yet: 1. I use 'closeappman.exe' from surreal start then include the file to StartUp folder. 2. Assign HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/:MSSart/1 to "\Storage\windows\gStart.exe" 3. Restart phone. On initial use, phone will ask if you will allow closeappman.exe to run. You need to confirm. I think it will be automated in the next release. :o
Guest simon211175 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 okay thanks - it's no big problem, thought I'd mention it for future dev :o
Guest fozzie Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Looks great. One small bug - it's displaying 'hidden' links. Good work :o
Guest jm012a9749 Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Looks great on my m8s C500. Cant wait for the QVGA version for my C550 :o:D:D:D
Guest BanditX Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 (edited) ::PLZ HELP:: gStart: menu-edit-"move to" is not black like the other options, how can i move my shortcuts?? *cry* TIA any help for me plz?? Edited September 18, 2005 by BanditX
Guest lspatricio Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Good idea this :o Some problems with it though : I have my startmenu divided into folders so that there are no more than 8 items in there. Now if I open one of the folders not all the item IN the folder are displayed.. For example my startmenu folder "programs" has 8 items : 1. Camera, 2. Codewallet Pro, 3. Mobiluck, 4. Multimedia album, 5. Pocket TV, 6. TomTom Mobile, 7. Video recorder, 8. Clearvue (folder) If I go in to this folder using Qstart only items 2,3,5,6 and 8 are shown. It would appear as if the system (ROM) items are not being displayed. Also if i attempt to enter the "Microsoft" folder (containing Iexplore, messenger, activesync etc.) Qstart freezes up. Perhaps because this folder has ROM items only ? Anyone seen this ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think I found the problem. I fixed this in the upcoming release of gStart v1.0 Thanks for the feedback.
