Guest Leapfrogg Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Not really, if you need more space you need to think about getting a larger storage card. All files TomTom installs are needed to make full use of the application. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok... But all the installations were made to the main unit... Can i still not empty it??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Once installed there should not be any large files on the phone, unless you selected the install to be on the phone by mistake.
Guest TravelTech Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I have a QTEK 9100 and am also having problems with the Ports on Tom Tom 5. The Ports shown in the Bluetooth Setup are 6 and 7, but in TT5 these are not here. Tried the regedit solution, but the DWORD hide is not there, and so cant see the GPS in connections. My GPS reciever is BT-GPS. Have also tested the GPS receiver on some FREEWARE GPS software and that works. Can any one help me connect or match the ports in TT5? Cheers
Guest fantomas Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Hi guys, just wanted to share this info that saved my life with Tomtom :) I've used all your tricks to get 5.21 up and running on a SPV3000, but each times I switched the GPS receiver off and back on, I needed to rerun the whole COM port jungle for it to work again  . Finally, I found on a french site that my GPS receiver (it's the Triceiver that came with my Navigon Package) doesn't handle secured COM connections.  If I run the process and define the COM port (7 in my case) as non secured, everything works fine! The only trick is that, after switcher the GPS on, I need to start Tomtom twice for the BT device to be found. Brilliant thread :D
Guest compatibleworld Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 STEP 3 : ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL [...] The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings. I got stuck here at step 3. I have an i-mate k-jam with WM5 I found a registry string "redirect" in HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings I deleted it and replaced it with "DWORD Group" as instructed but I still don't see any "GPS panel" where should I look for ??? You say "connection settings" , well if I tap Start->Settings->Connetions I do not see any GPS panel. please help !

Brilliant thread :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ditto, when I purchased my TomTom package, I clicked on the wrong selection and ended up getting a cheaper GPS device, after a week I sent it back as it would not keep a BT connection to the phone and would usually crash my phone at some point. On numerous occassions I had to re-pair it with the phone. I got the official TomTom reciever and it connected first time without me having to setup any BT ports and hasn't crashed my phone once. I think a large majority of problems with BT seem to be down to the actual GPS device.
Guest calosas Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Hi, just upgaded my spv c500 to an spv m1500. My tomtom mobile 5 software worked fine on the c500 but I cant get it to work on my M1500. Please Help!!!
Guest minty1978 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 its a different version that you require. on your c500 you had TT Mobile 5. for a PPC you need TT Navigator 5 :)
Guest Wizard_Nick Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 i took my sd card directly out of my c500 and put it in my wizard. Everything worked fine straight away.

Guest adc124 Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Hi people! Following these instructions I managed to get tom tom navigator 5.21 working perfectly on my Vario. In fact, I didn't have to to the final part of the instructions to select the right com port, com 6 and 7 we're already available to select in tom tom. Anyway, since installing my phone has been behaving oddly. It just rebooted itself for the first time a few minutes ago, but even before that the phone has been acting strange. Also, occaisionally when coming out of hibernation tom tom starts all by itself! Has anyone experienced similar problems or got any advice? I haven't updated to the latest T-Mobile rom yet, would you recommend trying that? It would be a pain in the arse to install everything again, but do you think it would help?
Guest wilfy Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Just thought i would add my little bit to this thread. I think of myself as quite an IT literate person but this stumped me for hours!! meaning it would probably stump the average person for days! My friend has an mda vario as do I. He tried to connect his FTECH-SPP Bluetooth GPS to his Mda for about 4 days and connected it by accident! He had problems with tom tom and checkpoint so he decided to reinstall everything which took off all the Bluetooth com settings etc. He tried and tried so I offered to help. 5 hours later it is connected!!!!! here is how i did it for anybody that is interested: - Pair up Bluetooth devices. I needed to enter 0000 as the passcode for the ftech-spp. Tick the serial box when it has connected and ok to that. - Click the com ports tab and click outgoing port. Choose the ftech-spp and com 6. tick the secure box and ok that - Choose incoming port and put that to com 7, tick the secure box and ok that. - Go to start > settings > connections > GPS - On the programs tab choose com 8 (this will share the gps to all progs that want it) - On the hardware tab choose com 6 with a baud rate of 9600. ok that - Now start tom tom. Go to Change preferences (screen 1/3) > Show GPS status (screen 4/6) - Click configure - Choose other Bluetooth GPS and select and continue. - Choose com 8 and done. - Now shut it all down and switch bluetooth off. Turn Bluetooth back on. Then fire up the gps box. Meanwhile open tom tom. It should all connect within about 20 seconds… woooo and yay
Guest Swampie Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 (edited) When I put TomTom Navigator on my Vario it was easy. I just copied the SD card onto my PC. Inserted my 512MB miniSD card into my reader on my PC, and copied the data I got off the TomTom SD card onto that. I inserted the miniSD into my Vario and the installation started and progressed to the end. I then ran the TomTom update (via ActiveSync I think) available from their website and that worked fine. Paried automatically with my TomTom GPS unit. I'm not sure what all the fuss was about with getting it to run on a Vario. Edited March 22, 2006 by Swampie
Guest newbie12 Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I got it working. 6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to WHATEVER NUMBER IS AVAILABLE EXCEPT 6. 7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE. 8. Finally start TT5 and CHANGE GPS BT PORT SETTINGS TO WHATEVER NUMBER YOU CHOSE IN STEP 6 it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have tmobile-US MDA. I followed the steps upto 8. I have selected COM7 in step 6 because I have only two ports available (COM6 and COM7). I soft restared. I have selected COM7 in tomtom gps. But it is not working. It is showing the map but it says NO GPS device!!!!! Any help will be appreciated> thanks, In advance, I have following ports available in tomtom gps: COM9 INFRARED PORT COM3 COM0 COM2 SERIAL PORT COM7

Guest andysalmon Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 (edited) For those of you that it is driving mad (and it did me!), to enable the GPS control panel you don't have to add the "group" setting in the registry but you must put the value of "hide" at 0 AND delete the other setting (sorry I can't recall it's name, but at default there's only 2- hide and the other. Then soft reset and it's there. To flash it to ROM don't forget the long press of the power button. P.S. Installing TT5.21 on my vario drove me potty, still only got 5 figure postcodes!! Guest dh1raj Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Having tried many failed attempts to get TomTom to work with a 3rd party GPS receiver(using a t-mobile vario)..i followed the instructions on this thread but to no avail. i could not get the TT software to see the GPS device, then i stumbled across some advice on another modaco forum. now i have got it working. You dont have to to change any of the GPS settings as mentioned oin STEP 3/4. Just need to pair the devices and when doing so, I just had to rename the 3rd party device (mine came up as BT GPS) to "TomTom Wireless GPS", then select a COM port(i chose COM6) then in TomTom "Another Bluetooth GPS" settings select COM6 as your connection and it will find it. I think the TT software doesnt like 3rd pary devices so if you make it believe it is connecting to a TomTom device then all is fine. as mentioned in GPS CONTROL PANE for both Program and Hardware settings, I have "None" selected. and have Manage GP automatically selected and it still works BTW the way I am using 5.2.1, not sure if this works using v5 or 5.1 I hope this helps anybody else save time that i wasted trying to get this to work :D
