This has to be the best yet...

Have just bought an O2 XDA mini S from an O2 shop, for the princely sum of £79.99, less a trade in (cheque to be sent to my address within 28 days) of £30.

It is connected to the Data 5 contract which is £9.40 per month for 12 monthes.

Total price over 12 monthes = £162.79

The woman in the shop asn't sure that she could connect just a data tariff, but she checked by phone with someone higher, and it was confirmed ok.

It even comes unlocked, so my Orange sim works straight away.

Seems a very good price ... out of interest what did you trade in?

No sign of the data contract online - has anyone else had success with this?

Cheers.

The data contract is one of their business plans, shown on page 33 of their current in store catalogue. It is part of their "Handheld business solutions" range. It gives 5MB of data per month for £8 + vat per month.

The handset is apparently available at that price for any tariff, that was the lowest cost one I could find, as I cannot yet find anyone to beat my current Orange Select 500 tariff.

The trade in was an ancient, but still working, Siemens SL45.

So far the phone seems great, connected to my wireless network without problems, although I'm sure I'll need to read lots from these forums to get the best out of it.

Hope this helps others.

that is a bargain.

i presume you get no minutes or texts for that price?

Thats right, no minutes or texts, just 5Mb of data per month. But for someone who wants to keep their existing sim/tariff I can't see a cheaper way of getting an unlocked wizard.

I understand that it can be bought at the UK in O2 shops, I think it is a great bargain and a great price, but I cannot find it online. The web shops that I saw offer this phone only with tariff plans that are higher. Since I opened this thread mainly for online shoppers and international users, I really would like someone to post here a link to a web shop that offers it.

Thanks a lot for letting all know about this bargain price !

Ivor ... must you be a business user (and have proof of this) to get this tariff you have managed to get?

Thanks.

No, I'm not a business user, and did not even have to pretend I was. There was no mention made of my status, other than that I passed the credit check..

As I said in an earlier post the assistant was not initially sure that I could have a data tariff on its own, but she checked by phone with somebody above her, and was told it was fine.

Thanks for the info - O2 are a little different to Orange it seems! :)

Ok, curious as I am I have done a little digging and come up with the following info online regarding the offer Ivor has talked about :

Business tariffs online HERE

XDA Mini from the business section HERE

Ok, so you can add the phone to your basket to buy online but I see no option to add the tariff also. Of course, O2 will not let you check out unless there is a tariff in the basket too.

I have contacted sales and they put the phone down after the initial "can I take your contact number please" question. Great start to O2 huh?

Anyone had any success online / through the sales line?

I went into the shiney new O2 shop in Penzance today and spoke to someone who didn't know much at all about, well, anything. He did go "out the back" to talk to someone who knew more, but came back with no helpful information.

In the in-store magazine, the cost of the handset says £FREE when connecting to any tariff over £60, £149 on any tariff over £30 and £199 on all other tariffs. (It says exactly the same under the O2 Exec so i'm wondering if O2 got lazy and just copy and pasted the text over)

Which O2 store did you go to Ivor and did you have to negotiate the £79 pricetag?

If i got my O2 store to phone your O2 store, maybe they'd sort out the same deal!?

Anyone else had the same luck?

Checked in my local O2 store today and the usual price for a Mini S is £199.99 but they were running a special promotion where its only £79.99.

My local one is Sutton Coldfield by the way

£79.99 on any tariff?

Do you think this is available in all O2 shops?

Anyone passing an O2 shop today? Go in, find out, and report back! :-)

i have found it is cheaper on T-mobile than O2

Posted

Just ordered my XDA mini from this place today...

http://www.buymobilephones.net/store/merch...95-Phones.ihtml

cheapest I could find it anywhere, opted for £29.99 for the handset, plus the 250 12 montn contract, which suites me ideally.

I think the T-mobile is possibly a better deal, but I've heard too many horror stories about coverage round here, and it's an 18th Month contract, which I don't like.

mobilefun has some good offers, but no stock unfortunately.....

Can't wait....

I went back to the O2 store today and can confirm the £79.99 pricetag on ANY tariff! Including the Data 5 £8+vat a month tariff. I'm off to get 2!

Again, why can't the O2 bargain be found online ?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

O2 online and O2 high st are more or less seperate entities. They always run seperate offers etc. You need to nip into the store.

Thanks, my problem is that I live in a country in the middle east :), not in Europe...

Therefore, I want to find a way to buy it at this bargain price, without traveling to the UK.

Arrrrgh!

My O2 shop now says the phone HAS to be on a voice tariff as well.

Oh well. Good luck to everyone else out there trying to get this offer.

How long was it before the HTC Magician came down in sim free price?

Your local O2 shop are telling porkies! XDA devices can be sold on a 'data only' tariff. However, if you wanted a Nokia 8800/SE K750i etc on a data tariff you would need to add a voice tariff as well. But XDA's can be purchased solely on data. Looks like a trip back to the shop is needed :)
