Guest Metoo Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Your local O2 shop are telling porkies! XDA devices can be sold on a 'data only' tariff. However, if you wanted a Nokia 8800/SE K750i etc on a data tariff you would need to add a voice tariff as well. But XDA's can be purchased solely on data. Looks like a trip back to the shop is needed :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From what I understand, O2 have sent a memo to the shops withdrawing Data5 on the Exec as it's too cheap. The lowest tariff is now Data36.
Guest onehitwookie Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Does anyone know if T-Mobile match other offers, it's just my Dad got a leaflet which gets him £20 if he gets someone else to sign up to a contract. I was planning on taking up the one of the U-fix deals on Scancom and wondered if T-mobile would match scancoms price. I doubt they'd discount it and give the credit as well but it might be worth a try.

Basically they won't pricematch anyone else at all (they told me "our deals stand up on their own"), and their different high street shops are run by one of four different companies so one "T-mobile" store doesn't care what another "T-mobile" store is doing. So no, they won't match any special bundle or deal Scancom may be doing. However, if you buy directly from T-mobile either by phone or web, and say your Dad recommended you, both of you will get £20 on your account. So he'll get his £20 and you'll get £20 off buying from TM, which may make it as good (or better) as the deal you've seen on Scancom. And if anyone is going to buy a Vario or any other TM handset and fancies £20 off their bill, PM me! DM
Guest RichardD Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 data 5 contract , works out with vat £9.40 x 12 = £112.8 plus got the xda for £79.99 so total cost was £192.79, very happy for xmas :) argghh, did my "online", they don't offer the data tariffs, so I'm paying £19 x 12 plus £79.99 for the phone. they say u can change tariff after 6 months, but I have a bad feeling that's still only onto an online tariff :D

Data 5 is available through O2 High St, not Online.
Guest GremlinUK Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Has anyone been able to secure this deal recently? The best i can find is the phone for 199 and the data 5 tariff. :??:

Guest clifhanger_uk Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 I just got a o2 XDA Mini S from Uxbridge shop.. 79.99 for handset £16 pm (o2 Tarrif 25) £50 off for old handset 300 mins off peak free per month I plan on giving my tarrif 25 sim to my mum so its just 29.99 + 16 x 12 = £221.99 over 12 months. I thought that was quite a good deal! Merry Xmas all. :)

Guest ivor the engine Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Are the O2 XDA mini's Sim locked or can you use any Sim? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mine was unlocked out of the box, now happily running my Orange sim. AFAIK all O2 contract handsets are unlocked, they only lock the payg ones.

Its unlocked, so my Orange sim works (its a 3G compatible sim incidentally). Price lists claim you can make voice calls and sms on a data tariff only, but I can't http://www.o2.co.uk/business/tariffs/datat.../0,,203,00.html Clapham Junction o2 shop had it instock

You are right the exec is £199.99 (which is frankly still pretty cheap). i also traded in an old phone and will get a cheque for £30 in a couple of weeks. Makes the mini even cheaper!!!
Guest Metoo Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 I got the mini s. Phew - seeing as question was about the Exec, and with your reply going on about 3G (which the Mini-S doesn't have), I thought you might have found a deal to dream of! Heart rate back to normal now! ;)

You usually get the option of having calling/texting provisoned on data only tariffs but in this instance it looks like they fogot to ask you.
Guest mattgod69 Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 This has to be the best yet... Have just bought an O2 XDA mini S from an O2 shop, for the princely sum of £79.99, less a trade in (cheque to be sent to my address within 28 days) of £30. It is connected to the Data 5 contract which is £9.40 per month for 12 monthes. Total price over 12 monthes = £162.79 The woman in the shop asn't sure that she could connect just a data tariff, but she checked by phone with someone higher, and it was confirmed ok. It even comes unlocked, so my Orange sim works straight away. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ivor I did the same, did you not install any o2 stuff at all (I did the corporate install so only minimal things on there) and do you get orange anywhere on the display? Is it ok to do this.... there are no legal problems that you know of? Cheers in advance.

There is no indication of the network in use, just says O2.
