Backup / Restore with Activesync 4

According to the help files on Activesync 4, you can only create restorable images from wm2003 enabled phones and not wm2005.

Is their anyway around this, or another application that will create a backup image of the phone? We will deploying a hefty amount of m5000's to our users, and without an image with our settings on this will be a nightmare with all the configuration.
