M5000 3G to 2G does NOT fix dropping calls

I have had an M5000 for a couple of months now, and had numerous conversations with Orange regarding the dropping calls issue.

I agree that there seems to be an underlying issue with 3G signal and with 3G compatibility with the handset, however, I feel it is an issue with the RADIO function as a whole.

I have switched to 2G as Orange suggested, however, I am still experiencing dropped calls. The problem is further compounded by Orange admitting that the transmitter in my area is half strength. This has been like this since day 1 of receiving the handset.

Either way, I have taken advice from the nice people at Trading Standards, and I am currently in conversations with Orange as they are in breech of contract. They are contractually bound to supply a working handset and working network regardless of where they say the problem may lie. Even if it is the Network (which they say they dont guarantee)

I have been advised, if I stop paying the bill, I will be in breech of contract, so I will keep paying it until a resolution is reached. I believe this will be an offer of a different handset of similar quality and specification. So goodby pocket pc and welcome back Smartphone I think!!!!

If anyone else is banging their heads against a brick wall, keep on and insist they are in breech of contract. Write to them and set a deadline for it to be resolved, keep paying the bill though! then when they agree to a replacement start talking money!

yes i have since found it doesnt help switcing to 2G only.. discovered 5 voicemails today. The reset my voicemail (again) and then it also reset the time it takes for voicemail to kick in to 10 seconds..

Just occured to me that perhaps when we upgrade, the answerphone settings are set t answer after 10 seconds and thats why we're missing calls?

I don't think that it's that really.. Orange have told me that transmitters are not at full power also.. seems a standard lineto fob us off..

well done for keeping at them.. keep on keeping on!

nato - Only you and Bronsky have posted to this thread. Probablly gives you an idea of the scale of the problem.

I use an O2Exec with an Orange USIM and have never had a droppedcall.

Sorry to hear you've been having problems and hope you enjoy your C600 but I love my Universal ;)

Nope I think that it is as much that people are now getting tired of saying the same thing over and over. Orange Exec Office just called me back (I had been away for a couple of weeks) and said that if people are really making the complaints that they are writing about up here, then they are are not getting through to the correct dept. Complaints and faults need to be sent through to the technical dept, who have received very few complaints which is why they are NOT scheduling doing anything with the ROM.

This lady, who I have to admit was very helpful, said that if they had had enough complaints through to technical it would have automatically escalated through to problem resolution. She has though offered a swap out to any handset I chose though cannot think of anything comparable...

I will post something similar to its own thread so that we can try to gee-up the troops into getting something done

Orange agreed to un-upgrade me and take back my third M5000: two of the M5000s had had a severe call-dropping/non-ringing problem in addition to other issues. At the time O said they'd had quite a few similar complaints.....

well i have had the best time with Orange. They want me to return the handset for 'testing'. The handset is apparently meant to be slow because of all the functions on it!

Nothing about dropped calls. They won't listen about other peoples problems because apparently each case is treated individually, so they can't comment.

This is a mess. Who has a list of issues they are having with the phone they can paste here and we can copy it in emails to Orange?
