In an earlier thread I mention I'd seen a USB enabled Hitachi stereo in DSG for £69.99 that allows you to browse and playback files stored on an mp3 / flash drive, and wondered if a bog standard smartphone would work with this feature.

Haven't tried it yet...

But playing with my i300 today I had a thought - this i300 has a 'usb mode' where the drive appears as a 3gb flash disk. In theory, this should allow the phone to act as a source of mp3's for these USB stereos even if a normal smartphone cannot ;)

How cool is that?

May well have to pop and buy one just to try this out.

Should plug straight into an XBox 360 to play tunes too ;)

I'm tempted by one of those car stereos that can play USB sticks...

£49 quid too! FORTY NINE QUID! And it plays SD cards. If only I didn't have an Alpine 7" MD screen w/dvd nav, DVD changer, mp3 changer, TV tuner, Ps2 slim and ipod connection I'd buy one like a shot. I've paid more than £49 for a @*&%$£ Alpine cable.

Don't bid it too high, it was only 49.99 in aldi a couple of weeks ago ( not that I shop there  - but they have silly low prices on stuff every thursday ) and your local branch may still have one.

Richard

They're all over ebay at £60 or so B-I-N prices, but check with your local Aldi frist as then you'll get a warranty.

Richard.
