Guest jklfdsa77
I have an unlocked MPX220 with Cingular service but will be canceling service soon. I've tried turning on the phone without the sim but it will not boot all the way through. It gives some error message about requiring a valid sim card. Is there anyway to make the MPX220 usable, minus calling ability, without valid sim card? Edited February 24, 2006 by jklfdsa77
Guest smeg36
Any SIM card will work, it will just say No Service if it isn't an active SIM. There is no way to get it to work without a SIM.
Guest awarner [MVP]
Place the phone in Flight mode then power off remove the SIM and reboot. You can also just leave a dead SIM in the phone, this is what I normally do. I actually have my 220 running without a SIM in it at the moment. Guest smeg36
How do you get past the no SIM error message without a SIM in the phone? I've never read of anyone doing that and actually using the phone.
Guest awarner [MVP]
Just do what I said above :) Place the phone in Flight mode then power off and remove the SIM then reboot. The phone only checks for the SIM when in normal operation but does not when in Flight Mode. All my spare phones I generally do this on as I only have one valid SIM and two old redundant ones, otherwise I have to swap and change all the time which can be a pain. Guest smeg36
Well you learn something new everyday. I never did know that trick. Having 10-15 extra SIMs laying, I've never bothered to learn it. So you still need a SIM to get it into Flight Mode, but once there the SIM is no longer needed. Good to know, thanks.
