Guest shillow2u Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) Ok, I have spent countless time online and on this site as well as Howardforums and I can't find any useable info. Everythnig gives you a little bit of info but not enough to get the phone working again. My phone wont boot past the windows screen. I have done the hard reset a million times. I have found some info on flashing the ROM but I can't find a ROM to use anywhere. Does anyone have a link to where I can find a ROM and some good instructions on how to flash it. I'm about to loose my mind trying to get this damn thing working again. Also, I have it unlocked and working on T-Mobil. Thanks Edited March 1, 2006 by shillow2u
Guest Paraklas Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 After a hard reset it takes quite a long time for the phone to boot. Did you leave it for a couple of minutes to see what happens?

I have even left over night several times and it doesn't get any further than the blue screen. If I don't get this thing fixed soon then I am going to go get another phone (probably not a smt 5600) because I need my phone especially for work. Right now I'm using my Samsung which I hate...ahhhhhh! Does anyone know how much Audiovox or some other company would charge to fix this problem.?? Thanks.
Guest Madeye Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) The smt 5600 is now supported by cingular so you could check their site for a rom, or contact their support if you can't find it. the 5600 is also known as the Orange c500, i-mate sp3, qtek 8010 etc so you could look for their roms! Try here: Not sure which of the sp3 versions you should use tho... although I'd guess that WWE means worldwide English. HTC may repair it for you (the manufacturers), you could contact them. I don't know the cost but I'm sure it would be less than a new phone! If you're gonna buy a new phone, and decide not to get another 5600, then upgrade to another smartphone (or PPC)! I'd use this as an excuse! ;) Edited March 3, 2006 by Madeye

I shouldn't need any parts but I'm not sure how much they will charge. I'll post when I find out the cost. Also, I did replace the screen myself so I'm sure that voided the warranty. I'm not sure if they will cut me a break since this is obviously a software issue. One other note though, they wanted about $150 to replace the screen including screen which I bought of off ebay for $25 shipped so I would still come out ahead on less they try to charge me some outragious price for reloading. I will update this thread as soon as I find out anything.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Did you send to UTStarcom in Hauppauge NY? They support the 5600 now Audiovox have divested ther mobile phone arm. The price is comparable to what HTC charge to fix a 'bad flash' over here. Out of interest, did the phone work after you fitted the screen? There are two screens for the typhoon. Richard
Guest shillow2u Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Fluffcat1, man I tried to find you on this site but had no luck remembering your name. I have read some great info from you in the past and figured you would probably have some good advice. Anyway, I ended up sending it to UTStarcom in NY. When I called to set it up the lady said it would be $75 to check it plus parts (figured no parts since it was software issue). Anyway, long story short, they didn't charge me to reload it. I didn't hear anything from them so I called and was told it was in the mail and there was no charge. It is less than a year old but I was worried about voiding the warranty by replacing the screen a few months back. I was expecting at least a $75 price tag  , but no charge. I think since they didn't have to open it they didn't realize I had torn the "void" sticker. Works great now and I believe they upgraded the firmware to a newer version. Only problem is my Jabra BT250v wont connect or accept the passkey  I don't know but Im trying to figure out that one now. Yes, the phone worked great after I replaced the screen. It was an exact fit and I got it off of ebay for $25. Did you send to UTStarcom in Hauppauge NY? They support the 5600 now Audiovox have divested ther mobile phone arm.
