Guest shadamehr Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 As per title, I am due a long standing upgrade from Orange, and a Number Port seems the way forward instead. T Mobile are doing some good Flext tarriffs (let me explain, its my PARTNER that will use the tariff, me the handset, so web and walk no good to me, as its HER tariff). I can get the Vario, WITH CoPilot for just £79.99 on a discounted £26.95 a month tariff (normally £35), with an inclusive allowance of £180 of calls, text and MMS for her. I get the vario and the copilot. So, TWO questions then... Can the Vario be SIM unlocked easily for free, like my ancient O2 Xda could, and if so how. And as this is "Vario with Copilot" does that mean that it will include a gps bt receiver with the pack - has anyone any experience of this deal? Or is it just co-pilot software only. As I can get the vario WITHOUT copilot pack, for free, instead of the £79.99 So to recap... Can it be easily free SIM unlocked to work woth O2 And does the Vario plus Copilot pack, include a gps unit? Cheers guys...
Guest Phil Lee Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I have just downloaded and run Lokiwiz 0.2b from XDA Dev and successfully unlocked my MDA Vario. I did have a minor misunderstanding with it however. When I first ran through the unlock process I selected the option to remove the CID lock. I assumed this removed simlock as well. It doesn't. The CID option only removes the CID lock, allowing you to put different ROMs on the phone. When I put my Orange sim into the phone it prompted me for an unlock code. I realised that you need to select the unlock option in Lokiwiz to remove the sim lock. Once I'd run through the unlock option I was able to use an Orange PAYG sim in my MDA Vario.

It took me a lot of catch up time to become abreast of things, but I eventually, surprisingly enough, settled on downloading the very same tool as you. I was also pleased to read that with Chen's help, the developer had managed CID unlock as well. This menas I can put an i-mate ROM on, if I can find one for download somehwere - as the new K-Jam AKU2 ROM is out. (can't post links here though folks, remember!). So cool stuff - it arrives tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. At least I know I can pick your brains if I get stuck. As to the second question I asked, about whether this deal is with the gps receiver, or just copilot software only... I have now downloaded FOUR seperate T-Mobile website pages where T-Mobile call this "Satellite Navigation solution". And to me, there's no sat nav, without a gps receiver, so if it doesn't come with the full works, I'll have my Trading Standards team onto them pronto *lol* I suspect it's going to be the full kit now though! Nice deal.
Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Let us know how that works out for you mate. Would be interested to see what GPS reciever they give you. Nice aint it that they make it sound like its in the phone?! Dont mention the reciever anywhere.

I KNEW it is via a GPS receiver - my only query was wether it was included in the pack, or if it was only the software solution alone. I was a bit cagey to be fair, but rest assured, you get a LARGE fancy box, which when opened, has the normal MDA Vario box inside, as well as a full boxed CoPilot 6 Live Box with software, 256MB Mini SD card, three CD's and the co-pilot own branded GPS receiver in it. Which from reviews on here, is one of the best there is, for signal strength, start up time, etc. Indeed, in the five days I have had it, I am mighty impressed with it. The whole rationale behind it, was a number port for our lass, from her current poor Orange deal. But now that T-Mobile are menat to be giving 1 GIG of data on their £7.50 add on from the 1st of April, and it can be added to their Flext tarriffs, I'm gonna have a tariff for myself, just to use in my Vario... So another coming in a few weeks! Cool!
Guest sporkguy Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 shadamehr, I'll be joining you on April 1st mate (as long as the rumours are true - sounds too GOOD to be true!) ;)

You could be the actual C.E.O. of Orange, never mind a Phone Trainer, and I wouldn't blame you for going for THAT deal with T-Mobile... It's AMAZING innit... If I have done me homework right, I can have Flex35 with the Online discount for life, for £26.25 And add the Web Data Deal, whatever they decide to call it, that would normally be £7.50, again, supposedly for discount at just £5 And thus get a tariff that gives me £180 of calls, sms, and mms (so for example, 500 anytime any net minutes, 500 SMS and 50 mms), and an amazing 1 GIG of data, for a grand total of just £31.25 per month. How SILLY is that! It's not an April Fools Day joke I hope!
Guest sporkguy Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 I doubt its an April Fools joke - Well I hope not anyway! My way of thinking, is that April 1st is the start of Q1 in the financial year - and so they're saving the best deal for the start of the year? Makes sense in my head anyway ;) (and I may not be a phone trainer for much longer :() Roll on April eh ;)
Guest shadamehr Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 (and I may not be a phone trainer for much longer ;)) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ??? how come/why?
Guest Syphon Filter Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 I guys, I have just tried this Lokiwiz thing on my new Vario... How do you know if the CID unlock has infact worked without actually trying to install another ROM?

It's like wondering if the fridge light stays on when the door's shut. ;)

Guest brand0nragged Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 hey everyone- i've tried and tried again to unlock my mda vario with the enablerapi.cab and lokiwiz02.bat, and after reading pretty much every tutorial out there, it's just not happening... Everything's fine and dandy up until i have to run the lokiwiz... i run it, hit U, and then it blasts through in about half a second and nothing happens. not after running it or manrally restarting the mobile.... if anyone could give me any advice at all, i'd really appreciate it!!! thanks!
