smt 5600 action button problem

Ok, here's a weird one. When my keypad lights illuminate, my action button (navigation pad) acts strange, by acting as if I'm pressing the number ONE (#1) key. It does this when moving in any direction or hitting enter. When the keypad is not lit, everything functions normally. This is whether the light sensor is enabled or disabled. Is this a short on the motherboard, or a ROM issue or any ideas?

UPDATE..ok I fixed it by flashing it with with an Orange rom. A hard reset (with the ATT rom) did not solve it. Now my keypad lights and action button function normally.
