Guest sporkguy Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 When i ran the emulator it asks for a url??? I put in the google.gmm but nothing worked now my original jave doesnt respond. Help! If you follow the instructions to the letter you can't go wrong. the url its asking for is the url to the jad file you put on your device - so e.g. /storage card/my docs/gmm.jad

Guest pavankp Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 now my original jave doesnt respond. Help! Is the original Java midlet manager (that shipped with WM5) not responding now? I have both IBM J9 and the original Java manager working on my SP5. Installing J9 does nothing to the existing Java manager. Pavan

Guest mrmackey Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Does anyone know how to make the text bigger in the application?? The menus and everything are almost unreadable on my SDA
Guest xda_gangsta Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 I have the tmobile SDA. For gps do you need to get an actual gps hardware or does it use the gprs on your phone to track you. Say I was to guy tomtom do I have to buy an actual gps unit or will does my phone have something internal that it will work for? The reason I ask is because alot of you seen to have the tomtom for your phone but for a couple hundred dollars you could just get a portable gps unit and not use your phone for that. can u please tell me the program that will track you with GPRS? Thanks
Guest Krille Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 See my earlier posts in this thread and install IBM J9 on your phone. You will then be able to see satellite pictures.Where do I get IBM J9 for Windows Mobile 5.0 (QTEK8310)? Cant find a link in that thread.
Guest Syphon Filter Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 The IBM java machine seems much slower to load the images than the Midlet manager. Even over wifi i have noticed there is a drastic slow down. Anyone else experiencing the same?
Guest lllr Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Ok got everything installed but when I tried a local version of GMM 1.2.1, J9 stalls on waiting on "Terms and Conditions Loading" screen with just the "Decline" action key on the left showing up. Has anyone seen this before? Also, has anyone succesfully made the system use J9 emulator versus Intent when clicking on .jar/.jad files? lllr
Guest xda_gangsta Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 can't google some how fix this, it seems way to complicated .. I'm lost but I would really like to have the photos show up since I have unlimited data.
Guest yoda6 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 For anybody still struggling to get google maps working on the Wizard then this article is well worth a read and includes a link to a cab file install of IBM's J9 JVM that actually works well on the Wizard.
Guest Sogarth Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 (edited) Anyone try Google Maps for smartphones yet? I did and its really - so I thought I would share my experience with you. ... Ps. I wonder how TOmTom etc are gonna remain competative now! For what it's worth, there's always the competition, which in this case, is compiled for Windows Mobile devices natively and supports GPS units right now. In this case, it's Microsoft's own Virtual Earth Mobile. No need to muck with any Java midlet managers or such - just install it and go! A couple of the nice points: As stated, it supports GPS units, so you can always find out where you are. If you don't have a GPS unit, you can ask it to try and figure out where you are via available Wi-Fi networks. Not always reliable, but helpful if you have nothing else. It can hook up to your contacts list, so that you can look up contacts directly, rather than having to copy and paste contact information. Since it's compiled for Windows Mobile directly, there aren't any of these problems of trying to figure out why satellite images and such aren't working - everything just does. It has a local cache, so if you tend to look at the same areas, or you close the app and restart it for whatever reason, it doesn't have to redownload map sections it's already shown. You can set the size of the cache yourself, as well as the location (so that you can have your cache on your much larger Storage Card). There may or may not be other things that are better and/or worse than Google Maps, but I haven't tried Google Maps, so I can't really say for sure. The points I made are based on comments that I've read here, things that Virtual Earth Mobile works better for. If somebody could actually make a good comparison chart, it'd be kind of neat to see. :) And, makes me wonder how Google Maps is going to remain competitive on the Windows Mobile platform... or if they even care. ;) Edited July 27, 2006 by Sogarth

Can't make it work with my BT GPS yet though - say "Could not open GPS port COM4:. Error opening COM device COM4:. Error = 55" despite COM4 being the outgoing port that i created for the device, and BT being enabled on the device. Anyone have any success with this? Does the GPS position update continuously or is it only when you click "find me"?

Just tried google.co.uk/gmm and it only gave me the option of downloading maps for the USA/Canada.
