Has anybody managed to load Skype on to their device...if so, any tips to watch out for. I've tried and failed.

nope but you can use an overclock app to get it working omapclock is what its called

after unlocking the handset I installed one of thr older versions of it with no hassle. I could sign in fine and send messages - never got round to doing a call though.

Yes, just downloaded the installer .exe, ran it and it installed on my device. It's big (5MB or so) so make sure you have enough space.

Works fine for IM/Chat. Voice is very laggy (unusual really). I've not tried overclocking it yet.

You should overclock to about 240mhz and make sure to get the low-speed cpu version. Other than that, it works. Hanging up is very sluggish, but yes, it works.
