Guest richard_d Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I'm having problems with Clearvue on the Vario II not reading several pdf's that work fine on my desktops copy of Acrobat. Are there any better pdf viewers available - I coun't find Acrobat for WM5 only 2003? Thanks
Guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Yep have the same problem here i loaded the t-mobile Vario 2 manual on to the device so i can refer to it from time to time and clearvue wont open it. it starts to then exits admittedly the PDF is 5 MB in size but still JEREMY
Guest M@rkC Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 According to the Adobe forums, the WM2003 version of Acrobat Reader doesn't work on WM5.0 - even though it can be installed with a bit of messing about. Most people who've tried it end up having to remove it and/or do a hard reset to return their device to a working state :D The best thing to do is to wait for Adobe to sort something out; suggestions have been made that they're spending all their efforts with the Macromedia integration and that things like WM5.0 support in their Pocket PC Reader is some way down the list :D For the time being, we're stuck with nothing very useful for reading PDF's on WM5 devices (some PDF's created as "old" versions of the standard, e.g. PDF 1.3, 1.4, seem to produce less problems for ClearVue - you can open the PDF file with Notepad on your desktop PC to see what version of PDF was used to create a particular file). Cheers, Mark.
Guest mandt Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 The WM2003 Adobe reader installed with no messing around on my Vario and it works fine so don't see why it wouldn't work on the Hermes...>LINK< it's certainly much better than the ClearVue offering It's 8MB though so make sure you install to storage card! (though you can compress the .exe with UPX after installing >http://www.modaco.com/Making-the-most...<

I installed it on my memory storage card and the icon appeared in program files okay. I don't know whether you can uninstall the pre-installed apps.
Guest M@rkC Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Firstly, apologies, I'm new to this as well! I installed it on my memory storage card and the icon appeared in program files okay. I don't know whether you can uninstall the pre-installed apps. Not sure why CABviaActiveSync doesn't work for you? It should just be a case of downloading the CAB file to your PC, right-clicking it and then selecting CABviaActiveSync from the menu; you'll then see the ActiveSync window pop-up and a message box saying "Please check the screen of your mobile device...." etc. and you should see the "Installing...." message on the phone screen....... As for removing the pre-installed apps., there's no (easy) way of doing that...assuming you get the pocketXPDF stuff installed, you could simply remove the shortcut to the Clearvue app (In File Explorer, navigate to My Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and "Cut" the Clearvue shortcut - you can then paste it into another folder for safe-keeping :D ). You'll be free of the Clearvue icon in the Start | Programs list, but the software will still be installed should you wish to sample its' delights in the future :D Mark. PS. "Re-installing" the Clearvue icon is simply a case of moving (Cut / Paste) the shortcut icon from wherever you saved it, back into the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder.
