CamerAware is now available!

The supplied one just says 'Camera alert', but I guess you can replace it with whatever you want (just have to keep the same name).

Ok cool, thanks for the info. Looking into windscreen mounts now.

On a slightly unrelated note (I apologise!) will active mounts for the I-Jam bit the SPV M500. I know in essence they are the same but are the connections the same on the bottom as well?

Thanks,

Shuriken1.

The speed display on my SPV C550 doesn't update properly - the bottom 1-2mm doesn't refresh so it misses the bottom of the numbers off.

Is there a fix for this?

If it wasn't for this I would have purchased the software right away!

James / leeph

Fix is already posted in the CamerAware area (specifically here), the installer for the next build will include the fix automagically

Since I don't have any speed-cameras in my area to slow down my SUPER FAST driving (in my hyundai).....

...what other features could we expect and how soon?

The location broadcasting interests me, but could you explain how accessable it is to others? I'd try it, but I'm under the impression this feature isn't available in the trial.

Do you have any additional features planned, specifically to do with location? RSS for outside webpage integration? Group locations?

Check out http://www.modaco.com/tracker.php?mid=1 to see my current position... CamerAware uploads position every minute.

Further features are planned, but of course prioritised below updates to the core functionality (more regular uploads, multiple journey storage and retrieval, password protecting, friend location).

The free trial of CamerAware gives full tracking functionality, registering gets you the Camera database (and helps support future application development of course).

Hi, I just got the email from the site about this and it looks like a cracking bit of kit. A friend has a bluetooth GPS aerial and if I can get it all to work then I will probably be buying this product within the week. However, there is one question I would like to clarify and I haven't yet found an answer.

Does CamerAware give audio warnings when approaching a camera? It has the red, yellow and green warning box which is cool but this would be so much better if I could leave the GPS aerial in my glovebox and the phone in my pocket.

Apologies if this has already been answered, thanks.

Shuriken.

It does.

The standard warning is a spoken 'Safety Camera Ahead', however the warnings are WAV files, and the application supports different files for different types of Camera and whether you are 'over speed' or not.

So, for example, you could have 'GATSO Camera Ahead, Slow Down' if there is a Camera of type GATSO approaching, and you are over the database speed limit for that Camera.

Additional sound packs will be available soon, free of charge of course to registered users.

That sounds excellent, I found the standard alert earlier when nosing about but the sound packs with the different sounds very good. Also a lot easier to modifying knowing I'll have the right file names.

Is there any expected delivery date for the sound packs? Is it near the top or list or not particularly?

Either way this is great stuff, keep up the good work. Expect a registration from me soon.

Shuriken.

Near the top of the list.

The list goes somewhere like this:

- Release updated build with SP2003-176x220 support and fixed SP2003-320x240 support, plus a few other minor fixes

- Release sound packs

- Release a few different skin packs

All the time work is continuing on CamerAware 2.0 with an overhauled GPS engine, improved uploading of tracks (e.g. 1 minutely uploads of 1 second tracks!), camera add / remove / delete / update and a ton of other great improvements

Just added to the FAQ:

Q: What filenames should I use for custom sounds?

The standard sound is SafetyCameraAhead.wav. You can also use SafetyCameraAheadSlowDown.wav, SafetyCameraAheadCAMERATYPE.wav and SafetyCameraAheadCAMERATYPESlowDown.wav. e.g. SafetyCameraAheadGATSOSlowDown.wav would sound when you are approaching a GATSO Camera over speed.

Sorry, should have found that myself. Thanks all the same though, I'm just playing around with the skins at the moment - I hope you don't mind. :(

Not at all... I think the Skin XMLs are self explanatory, and there are some PSDs for the skins in the CamerAware forum.

Post there if u have any skin questions too!

I've just managed to get around trying CamerAware, but it doesn't meet my requirements.

It exceeds them. This is fanstastic!

I was very sceptical of this application as I'm used to TomTom, and trying to working out why I would need this. The availability to test this before you buy it worked for me. I tried it, I liked it and I've paid. This is

I was testing this last night, and as the dark nights are drawing in, I found the screen a little too bright at night, so was wondering if there were any plans to introduce a "Night Mode" like TomTom has, where the colours are inverted.
It's not something I planned, but it's very easy indeed to do with the custom skin engine. Good suggestion tho!

Another idea, although tacky as it may sound, I would like to customize the layout, font colours etc so it matches the electronic displays on my car dashboard, i.e car stereo font is Orange text on black background. It appears the skin can be customized, but can the font colours be too?

Again, very easy to do.... you just need to edit an XML file and tweak a GIF to suit your requirements.

I'll assume you mean something like this?

Yes. Exactly like that. Great.

What colour font was that?

I'm trying to match it with my homemade home screen.

Thanks

OK, so I have a Hermes which "conveniently" disconnects from the GPS when I power it off. I do however ride a motorbike so it would be primo to run cameraware with the screen powered off and not taking any touchscreen input so I could drop it in my pocket and go.

Also, if I set it up to log to a db then couldn't the police demand access to the db and do me for speeding? (If I accidentally happened to go slightly above the limit that is)

As you noted, if you power off the device, it'll disconnect the GPS, and CamerAware will just try and reconnect when you power it back on.

CamerAware keeps the device 'alive' while it is running, so if you just lock the screen, then it should be OK.

With regards to logging to my DB, I think the Police would have a hard time proving that the data in the DB is you, that is if they went to the extremes of getting a warrant for that data, which is what they would need to do. I wouldn't hand over DB data voluntarily, but if they REALLY want it, as with anything, they can get it.

I'd be very surprised if DB data, which can't be proven is you, and can't be proven is accurate, would stand up in court!

paul,

great app, muchos kudos! - (cant find my working gps bluetooth, and the other one seems to have stopped tracking satellites... but will be great when it works!)

i have a qvestion tho:

how does CamerAware cope with the "average speed cameras" - does it flag red for the whole distance between the two sets of cameras, or jus the camera installations themselves?

just interested!

As it stands I believe it just flags at the SPECS sites and says SPECS as it would with any other camera. This was discussed in another thread and Paul said he would look into some kind of average speed system but I don't think he's had much luck yet. I'm sure he will be on to give the low-down soon enough. :)

It flags the start / end camera installations atm, I may implement an average speed display in the future however.

Theoretically, if both TomTom and CamerAware connected to the Windows Mobile 5 shared GPS port, they could co-exist... :)

CamerAware could run in the background, and it already brings itself automagically to the front when a red-alert scenario happens.

Any guinea pigs? :D

Hi Paul, when do you think this software will be available for symbian 3rd edition phones such as the nokia N80 ?

There are no plans to offer it for Symbian devices at the moment i'm afraid.
