TOMTOM NAVIGATOR 6 AND IMATE SP5

Just installed Route 66 and I'm fairly impressed so far. Very much like TomTom if you ask me.

When it's running I only have 10% "RAM" free on my XDA IQ (SP5), which makes everything else (opening Contacts for example) very very very slow, but I seem to recall this being the case with TomTom too.

A few thoughts though:

1. Mine came on CD and the installation re-formats your memory card (it does warn you first) when it could just copy the files.

2. Navigating to contacts is a bit hit and miss - it keeps trying to send me to Dublin when I "want" to go to Dartford

3. xBar interferes with the selection of some items (press and hold * to close xbar before you start R66)

4. It installs cruddy folders all over the root of your mSD card! Why do they do that? What's wrong with using a single folder at root level?

Overall quite happy so far.

Thanks for the comments Chucky.

I have a spare miniSD card so I could install to that and then copy the Route 66 files and folders to the 2GB card I use in the phone.

I do use XBar but obviously the issue isn't a deal-breaker.

Cheers,

Jason.

hurrah! another Route66er

ram is almost non existant when using the SW... have found that if you open contacts etc b4 loading its quicker to drop back into them and same for messages etc, or updating your emails on the road... (gotta love nipping on unsecured wifi when parked up eating lunch lol...)

I didn't have the formatting issue as I just copied the needed files via a reader...

Haven't tried to navigate to contacts within the phones contact list... didn't know you could! eek!

cant comment on xbar... dont use it... yet (runs off to investigate...)

Folders... full get where your coming from there... same as tomtom... you get a 2577 folder! odd...

You tried the traffic data yet?

Cheerio

Well I took the plunge and bought the software only version. I'm pretty pleased for the price. I don't have a GPS unit yet, but starting up without one doesn't take too long. It searches for a GPS signal and when it can't find one it offers the choice to start without it. I can then use the 'Zoom To' option to find something on a map.

I will get a GPS unit sometime soon as the software is obviously much more usable with a GPS signal. The solar one I mentioned in a previous post looks quite small so should fit in a jacket pocket fairly easily.

Thanks for the help!

I have got the PDA version of TTN6 to work on my SP5 with SPHelper to overcome the touch screen interface issues. It runs OK, not too memory hungry. I can still stream radio over GPRS at the same time, for example. In fact TTN6 works better than TTM5 in that respect, which used to cause background audio (radio/mp3s) to cut-out for long periods. 6 doesnt seem to have any compelling functionality over 5 though, so overall, not much benefit. The maps see just as flakey as before - especially central London, and the desktop software doesn't do anything useful like analyse your trip history (as you can with Becker satnav systems).
