Voice not heard when headphones plugged in

Hi,

I have a problem with my PPC phone. When I plug a jack into the headphone socket, it switches off the external mic. That is to say, if I have headphones plugged in and the phone rings, I can answer it and hear what the person calling me is saying through my headphones loud and clear, but they cannot hear me unless I hold the phone up to my mouth. Yet with the headphones plugged in I can use Notes Voice Recorder to record my voice with the phone a few feet away from me and the mic works perfectly well. So the mic is perfectly capable of picking up my voice from that range when the headphones are plugged in.

Is there a registry hack to enable the external mic to be used for voice input to the phone when you have a pair of head sets plugged in?
