The friend bought a Zune from Amazon US for me, the Ultimate Ears were a gift.

So do you think it's worth buying a zune? Is it better than an iPod?

to me it looks great just from the viewpoint of me being thoroughly sick of little white boxes and little white earphones. not to mention the fact that a full colour device like the ipod behaves and uses an interface like it's monochrome.

nice to see the zune using that screen to full potential. nice to see the modaco on it :) if it just had a camera i think a lot of kids would go for it... 2nd gen maybe?

The semitransparent coating is a lovely touch. i think many ipod users will switch because finally here's a device that *doesn't* need a protective soft anti-scratch pouch :D

that said, i think it definitely screams 1st gen... the features aren't quite amazing enough (the music sharing is nice, but...) it'll be like the xbox. it'll take some time to mature and become really kickass... i wouldn't buy one ... yet... (although i might if i still used public transport).

You're right in that it is 1st Gen, but I still like it. You're spot on about the build quality, I hated the fact my iPod got marked so easily.

Better than iPod? In some ways yes, some ways no basically :)

I hate iTunes, and want to play WMAs, so for me - yes!

i just don't understand why it won't play wma's downloaded previously (non-zune-marketplace ones). that to me sounds like the most idiotic mistake. i guess apple did it too, not allowing other mp3s... but it was launched in the early days when millions of people hadn't downloaded things from other music stores.

i've got a few wma's i paid for that i wouldn't be able to play. such a shame. However, on the whole, it's good for people like me as i'm more a ripper than a downloader.

You gonna have any good photos, videos, or any cool unknown features?

I grabbed one of these on launch and have been very pleasaed with it so far. I also have an iPod but the subscription service that Zune is offering is great for me. I like to own some of the music but there are many songs out there that I want to listen to from time to time that I am not that interested in actually owning.

So far the hardware works well and the screen is very sharp. The software has been able to convert video files for mw with no problems at all. Overall if someone is looking for a decent subscription based service and a portable device I would suggest it. I do not see this replacing the iPod for most people out there but it is a nice alternative.

getting mine at the weekend!

Looking forward to clever people doing funky things with the Wi-Fi. Maybe even something from MS :)
