Guest Monolithix Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Plus - battery, HDD and RAM are non-changeable. It's sexy as hell but while i'd not say no if offered one, don't think i'd but it out of choice!
Guest J273 Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Just rememberd ,My bro's going to the US next month. £800's better than £1200 Sorry may be a real dumb question .......But i remember paul mentioning you bought you macbook from the US......Would it be just a matter of going into the apple store and paying and bringing it over to the UK??? Or are there other costs involved to get it into the UK?...Do i have to pay any import at all? Also if theres any problems with it ,could i just send it to a UK apple store? Sorry as said maybe a dumbass question :) :D Thanks
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 I just bought it in the Apple store and brought it back! :) P
Guest Mr.Clark Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Is it true that UK Macs (notebooks and desktops) have US keyboard layouts? I'll admit the Air is very desirable, but I'm hoping that because of it's release, we'll see a drop in the price of the regular MacBooks... I want a black one!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Don't think so. Mine does, but then it's a US model. I've seen different keyboards on UK models... P
Guest Zim Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 UK models have UK keyboards, Although i prefer the US keyboard on a mac, My 1st powerbook was a US model, got so used it.. but the blackbook's is growing on me.. Zim
Guest RyanPittman7 Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Macs' speciality is gaming. If you're a gamer, or looking to illegally ( or legally ) download music/porno films, or you have a smart phone, or you like to watch television, then I suggest a MAC! M = My A = Awesome C= Computer!

Guest RyanPittman7 Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 haha...gaming...funny... macs cant do ANYTHING, except the basics that any windows computer does :) Macs can't do anything? Then how come when I use a macintosh I do the same things I do on my windows laptop, it does it smoother and quicker. I've never ran into any walls while using a Mac my little bubble buddy. Read through the thread for some PWNAGE!
Guest Kenneh! Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 im not biased either way, i use a macbook pro for all of my graphic design/renderring projects... and i use my dell for every day practical use, despite windows being more obviously vulnerable, its a lot easier to use in a fast paced gaming/surf the web environment. Owner of an Asus EEE with XP on it, a Dell E1705 (with xps m1710 internals as well as 4gb ram), macbook pro, and my old desktop that is a work horse but is never used due to laptops being more convenient. im personally sick of all the fanboys that cry one way or the other "blah blah blah pc is sooo much better, mac sucks!" and vise versa... makes me wanna punch geeks (pcs of course!) and tree huggers (the generic mac user) in the head... With that being said... I leave you all with an image you can chuckle at...
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 haha...gaming...funny... macs cant do ANYTHING, except the basics that any windows computer does :D Seems like mikeeey doesn't know much about macs :) P
Guest mikeeey Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Seems like mikeeey doesn't know much about macs :) P lol ok paul, tell me some features a mac can do that windows cant. (emulating windows, Dual boot, etc... doesnt count, as any OS could do it)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 You said "macs cant do ANYTHING, except the basics that any windows computer does" which is quite different. For me, I find the mac experience far more productive and stable than windows, and there's some truly great software that I have found on mac that knocks anything I used to use on windows into a cocked hat. I particularly like... - Coda (web development environment) - Ubercaster (podcasting solution, found nothing like it on windows) - Adium (nicest IM client i've ever used) - CSSEdit (great web designers tool) - Imagewell (easy drag n drop image stuff, use it every day) - NetNewsWire (even better than feeddemon!) - Radioshift (catch radio programs when I want them) - Things (nice task management app) These are just a few of my favourites. I've always used PCs until July last year, and we still have 1 laptop and 2 desktops around the house. I bought the base Macbook as an experiment to see how I got on with it, and I never looked back. I don't play games (have consoles for that) but I do spend my whole day doing web /image focused stuff, and Mac is killer for that IMHO. The only thing I use VMware for is Visual Studio, but that kinda figures, and even on Windows I run that in a VM for isolation :D I'm not saying mac is better than PC for everyone, but it is for me, and it is GREAT :) P
Guest mikeeey Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) well i guess what im trying to say is i like the fact that most everything is based around windows. Usualy something will come out for windows before it does for Mac (if it ever does come out for Mac). Most downloads on the web are .exe's, and macs cant recognize them..i like a computer that can recognize all file formats, and do pretty much everything. for editing, a find having 2 mouse buttons very useful actually, i know you can plug in a 2 button mouse for a Mac but for example a laptop, if you arent using an external mouse then you only have 1 button. so i guess it's mainly lack of compatibility that i dont like, i really dont like having to find an alternative for what i could have used on a windows. pretty much the way i look at it is why should i get a mac when windows can do the same plus more? PC stuff comes out for PC, Mac stuff comes out for Mac. That's like saying buy a WinMo over Symbian because stuff comes out for WinMo first. No, different stuff comes out for different platforms. Most PC downloads on the web are EXEs, erm, conversely post MAC downloads on the web are DMGs :D My mac recognizes every file I throw at it. When docked my mac has a 2 button mighty mouse, and you can right click on the touchpad too with a finger combination, which is fine and second nature in no time. You can do other cool stuff too like scrolling by putting 2 fingers on the touchpad and moving up and down. I have a mac because it does stuff a windows machine can't for me, so opposite of what you feel :) Each to their own I say! P
