Guest martin Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 [So they are saying that this is correct behaviour for a Class B device, but it's not what I understood it to be. It's the correct behaviour of a class B device when using network operation mode 2. This is where CS (Circuit Switched) paging messages and GPRS paging messages are sent on the GSM network. Class B devices cannot monitor the CCCH paging channels of the GSM network and transfer data on the GPRS network at the same time. :D It's only when using network operation mode 1 that a class B device can receive CS paging messages while actively transfering data on the GPRS network. Unlike mode2, CS paging messages and GPRS paging messages are sent via the GPRS network. When a device is GPRS attached it will receive paging messages via the PPCH (Packet Paging CHannel), or if the device is actively transfering data it will receive the paging messages via the PACCH (Packet Associated Control Channel). :) Unfortunately there is a bit more to mode 1 including signalling between MSC/VLR annd SGSN, paging co-ordination, combined RA and LA updates, PBCCH/PCCCH etc, so I think it's really down to if and when network operators complete successful testing.
