Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Followers of Windows Mobile 6 may know that, on Professional (Pocket PC) at least, VOIP functionality is integrated. This seems to be missing on the S710, does anybody know if it's included in Standard (Smartphone)? P
Guest TcT Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 When you have a look at this review of WM6 Standard there is an option for internet calling: http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/articles/...andard-en.shtml So I think it is contained in the WM6 Standard Edition but it surely has to be enabled like in the WM6 Beta roms for PPC devices already out there.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Hmmm, intriguing! Wonder if it's removed because the 200MHz proc can't cope with it very well? P
Guest TcT Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 I think it's meant as a feature for the provider because in the current WM6 PPC roms there is no GUI to configure the SIP server. You have to create a CAB from an XML file to enable the settings. I'm pretty sure something similar will come to WM6 Standard edition. The 200mhz CPU should be fast enough even skype works fine with it and at least in the past (on a HTC Wizard which hat the same CPU) SIP was always less CPU intensive that Skype.
Guest TcT Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 VOIP works in WM6 Standard edition. Have a look at the XDA-Developers wiki here. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Vox Customzing the IPDialplan.xml to your SIP providers needs is the only tricky part.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 That looks to me like a PPC install, proceed with caution! P
Guest TcT Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 They are definitely PPC files but they enable the right options in Smartphone too. It seems that the UI specific stuff (which for sure is different) is already contained in the OS and not part of the dlls in the .cab. I tested it with Sipgate (Germany) and it seems to work so far. Only tested incoming call so far but that definitely works. Although the sound comes from the back speaker not the front speaker. I'll give it a little more try when I have my headset with me.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Woo, cool... will install and test with SIPgate too ;) P
Guest WhiteMonkey Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Woo, cool... will install and test with SIPgate too  P Any joy? I'd love to be able to use my sipgate account on my XDA Exec. Also, how are you connected to the internet? Can it work through USB and/or WiFi?
