really? i dont understand why u would wanna put an operating system on the herems that doesnt support 3rd party apps tho.

Someone might jump on me but - Linux is about the most open operating system there is! It might not support running WM5/6 Apps, but I am willing to bet that if it runs on HTC platforms then there will be (or perhaps already are) many apps ready to run.

Linux is open source, so all apps for it are open source, which means quick bug fixes and lots of programs

There are a few screen shots on it over on the XDA-Devs wiki, they even have the kernel booting on the HTC Tornado, HTC Athena and HTC Hermes however more research needs to be done before its usable as a phone...

The most 'complete' linux distributions for HTC devices are the Himalaya, Blue Angel and the Universal.

yea but i think there always will be more WM even if linux starts to become popular on phones. speaking of phone, does linux let you make calls and use the camera?

i actually wouldnt mind trying linux on my sda but the problem is i dont like having to re put windows back on my phone and losing everything.

You actually boot to linux by loading a bootloader into your RAM then jumping to that memory address, then using that to load a disk image on your SD Card/Phone memory. To revert back to windows... just turn your phone off and back on again  all your data is safe.

On tornado, only the kernel boots, there isn't an OS as such....
