Guest blowdart Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I have just made a call into Orange technical support and they said they are aware of the problem and have no ETA as of yet on the fix. I am to be honest sick of this, Orange have well and truly crucified this handset. Is there an HTC rom available for the phone yet? A Hmm, I just spoke to someone in data who said they weren't aware of the problem, but they are now, and he'd raise it with HTC and hopes for a response within a couple of days. However installing apps isn't officially supported. On any Orange phone :S
Guest blowdart Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Just had a call back from orange. They've logged the problem with HTC and will get back to me with the results.
Guest surur Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Just had a call back from orange. They've logged the problem with HTC and will get back to me with the results. Any progress on this problem. I am on the verge of returning this phone, the very first time I would do this. I buy a smartphone specifically to install apps, and a device, no matter how cool, that can not do this is just not worth it. Surur
Guest Looby Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 I agree, I think Orange has spoilt this phone, however I won't give it up as it is so lovely. It is odd this installation thing. I installed Mapopolis Navigation with no problems and it works perfectly. Smartphone Notes with sync., Newsbreak and Handy Weather went to install and the timer just kept spinning until I hit the home button. Surprisingly upon switching the device off/on a box came up asking whether I wanted to install to phone or card and proceeded to install one of them. After repeating this the others installed at other times. As with the other niggling issues it feels like the ROM needs a good clean along with a debrander. <_

Surur Nothing; after the initial call, and the confirmation of receipt of my email I've heard nada.

Taking the battery out while on full power can lead to trouble
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Let's REALLY hope O gets me one soon then! I plan to do a full on ROM differencing between the S710 and the E650... already completely dumped the S710 ROM. P

Guest peekie Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 if you look on the orange rom it has the htc cold boot included ( well on the dutch rom its there ) if only there is a way to remove the orange one and do a hard reset for the htc settings to be installed instead of the orange ones would solve the problem
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 So we come to the end of Day One of ownership of an Orange E650. Getting the free upgrade over the phone was simple and delivery was too fast to meter. Citylink made it to my office before I did and the battery was fully charged, Orange France had it (application) unlocked within minutes and Outlook even refrained from duplicating random contacts and calendar events. This baby is a beauty and I'm back at the centre of mobile telephony attention in my little world. :D I'm an accountant and use the number pad on my PC keyboard. The qwerty (is that how it's spelt ?) bit has always been a mystery for me so I have never fancied a WinMo device with that method of input but look at this ! Look how it slides out ! Look at the screen switching ! Mint ! I go home and start to load the device up with my essential software. Never has it been easier to remove the Orange software lock. Never has it been harder to install unsigned applications ! What's going wrong here ? I've pulled the battery from this device today more than I've had to do it with all the other Orange WinMo phones over the years put together. Probably. So confused. Laters :P
Guest Looby Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Welcome to the club Disco Stu, wait until you try texting
Guest peekie Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Well my installation problems are gone :P all i did was have the sinlock removed from the phone , but have to say while the phone was unlocking i was worried it was going to brick as the screen looked very dark green with a purple bar appearing after a minute , well the phone rebooted and it seems to work again as it should  and to end my day off htc are sending me a free case for it the one that i should have had , least soon my sp5 can have its case back :D
Guest blowdart Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 After a call from data support yesterday (where they said that I should talk to HTC, to which my response was "No, you sold it to me, you support it" I got a call from someone from the developer partner team today. He can reproduce the install problem! So he's taking it, with details of all the software I've tried, to the handset team who will hopefully kick HTC about it (and the non-restoring of the reminder volume) So something is happening. (I also this week got an explanation of why messenger isn't there, apparently HTC had promised the new version of Live Messenger, but simply didn't deliver. Why they couldn't provide the old version I have no idea)

Guest kaleid101 Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 After a call from data support yesterday (where they said that I should talk to HTC, to which my response was "No, you sold it to me, you support it" I got a call from someone from the developer partner team today. My first post here... I called 150 with the same issue ( tried to install Avantgo, worked a treat on my SPV600 which I upgraded from). Was told to contact HTC. I told Orange they supplied the phone, therefore they were responsible. I was told they supplied the connection and SIM card. I told them they supplied the phone... which was not fit for purpose... Anyway eventually got put through to someone who took an interest and I reported the frequent freezing only remedied by battery removal, the inability to install applications and the issues when trying to text and the keypad only enters numbers into the text body, not letters. The operator told me that he had not come across any of these issues before - ( i assured him everyone else on this forum had). He assured me he would pass it on to technical support - and call me with an update in the next few days. I'll share the update when I get it..!
Guest mutejute Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 i just hope you get a reply from them soon with good news.
Guest mutejute Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 (edited) Is this a known issue to ALL Orange E650 phones? In some threads, I see some posts that they manage to install apps like TomTom Manager or doing registry hacks in their Orange E650 phones. How did they manage to do that? I tried installing the app unlocking from http://spvunlock.rd.francetelecom.com/ but I cant cause I cant really install anything on this phone and had to hard-reboot everytime i do this. is there a step-by-step guide or trick to bypass this security? Edited May 19, 2007 by mutejute
Guest Looby Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 The tweak seems to be install the app. on to the phone, choose device or card and let the coloured icon spin for a couple of minutes and then hit the Home button. Switch your device off (don't remove battery) it will appear as if it is not switching off but if you leave it it will after a period of time. Upon switching the device back on the app. will be installed correctly. Because it appears the device does not switch off it is tempting to remove the battery but if you do the app. will not install. Patience seems to be the key here.

Guest Prof. Yaffle Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 Mine seems to be fine up to now. The only thing I had to do on mine other than the unlock file from http://spvunlock.rd.francetelecom.com/ was to alter one of the registry entry values using Mobile Registry Editor. Beforehand it wouldn't allow me to install CardCache but everything else was fine.
Guest Looby Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 do i need to do the app unlocking first before i install anything? or can i just go ahead installing apps without the app unlock? All the apps. I installed were without the device being application unlocked.
Guest Prof. Yaffle Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 (edited) In reply to a pm from Mutejute, here's how I application unlocked my phone. Before I did the Francetelecom unlock I'd previously ran Pauls RemoveSecurity.cab file from here by copying it to my storage card and then running it and rebooting the phone. If that made a difference or not I'm not sure. All I did to unlock mine was to register for the .cab file from http://spvunlock.rd.francetelecom.com/. Once I'd received the file I copied it to my storage card and ran it on the phone (only took a few seconds). Once it had finished I switched the phone off and back on again. I then downloaded Mobile Registry Editor from here. and made these changes as listed here by Xavalon. Change under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies: - DWORD "1001" to 1 - DWORD "1005" to 40 The first one on my phone was already set to 1 so I only had to change the second one. I then rebooted the phone and my apps installed perfectly. Up to now I don't seem to have suffered from the problems a lot of people seem to be having. Edited May 21, 2007 by Prof. Yaffle
