Changing the Slider Sounds

First, I love the site! I stumbled onto Modaco from another site while trying to research my GPRS settings for the Vox. And I havnt missed a day checking and learning yet! Onto the topic at hand:

So I have recently taken it upon myself to do a bit of Registry editing to add my own sound effects to the sliding of the phone, and keypresses etc etc. I am using Mobile Registry Editor to do the editing but I cannot seem to get the changes to actually take effect. Does anyone either have a tutorial on how to edit registry and ensure the changes take effect? Or can anyone explain how to do it briefly? Thanks!

Why dont you just change the sound via settings -sounds?

Because i'd guess he wants something other than the standard three that come with the phone perhaps.

Does anyone know how to make your own sounds for the slider. What format do they need to be in, and how do you assign both tones to the slider drop down list to set it.

The sounds are placed in \Windows

0_in.wav

0_out.wav

0.wav

Maybe if you can overwrite these files with your own sounds renamed to 0_in.wav etc it does work

The registryadress is HKCU/Control Panel/Sounds/Slidingin

slidingout

Indeed, I found the registry location, and learned how to go about replacing the files. But whenever I try and replace them in \Windows it tells me access denied? And I have the .wav format covered as well. And what exactly is on the 0.wav? I notice all the sliders have another .wav associated with just the number of the sliding tone, what exactly does it do?

I have successfully managed to add new sounds. Here is a little guide to it:

1. You will have to make three wave files.

3.wav : Contains whatever you want.

3_in.wav : The sound when you slide the keyboard in.

3_out.wav : The sound when you slide the keyboard out.

Copy these three files into your Windows directory in the phone memory.

2. Start the Registry Editor

Go to \\HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\

In here you have three keys:

SlidingIn

SlidingOut

SlidingSound

If you change the value string named 'Sound' in the two keys (folders) named 'SlidingIn' and 'SlidingOut' it will have no effect. Instead you modify the 'SlidingSound' string-value named 'Sound'.

Modify it to '\Windows\3.wav'. When you save the value, the two other string-values named 'Sound' in 'SlidingIn' and 'SlidingOut' will be automatically be modified.

Conclusion:

You have now added new sounds to you sliding-feature, but I am not sure what happens if you use the 'Sound'-feature from within 'Settings' in you phone. When I go into the list on my phone it says 'None' in the 'SlidingSound' dropdownbox. I think that if you modify anything and saves, that you will have to repeat step 2 of this little guide. But give it a try. Personally I think that it is much more fun to have the sound of a Star Wars lightsabor being turned on and off, when I slide my HTC s710 open or closes it.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Sincerely
