I've found that the max is bout 25 pages of text in a word document. Brilliant app by the way. especially the part where it remembers where you left off. I can now read my Gemmell ebooks on the train. Big thanks!

Orneta Notepad has size limitation because it uses regular control (such software component) from Microsoft. It is limitation of that control, not resulting from Orneta.

Version 1.16 of Orneta Notepad is out.

New features:

- NEW in version 1.16: now when you want to send the text through SMS, then you can select mobile phone number for SMS-ing also from Contact list!

- NEW in version 1.16: you can set now, in dialog General Settings, the default input method; for example if you set "T9" as default method, then, if you exit the program and start it again, then it will have the method that you have set as default ("T9"!).

- NEW in version 1.16: "File Associations" dialog (menu File / File Associations) when you can associate selected file type (like "txt") to the Orneta Notepad.

- NEW in version 1.16: correction: now settings are placed in the correct location in the registry.

- NEW in version 1.16: correction: now setup installs properly to the phone or to the memory card - as user wants - previously setup program was installing only to the phone.

....... plus plenty of old features still there.

- NEW in version 1.17: corrected error in menu : "Menu / File / File associations". Now when you enter there "txt", and when you put *.txt files to Start Menu then you can open them automatically with Orneta Notepad in the menu of the phone (or from other location with some file explorer)!

- NEW in version 1.17: new menu position : "Menu / Edit / Time/Date" - it enters current time and date into the text.

- NEW in version 1.17: new menu positions: "Menu / Search / Goto Start" and "Menu / Search / Goto Start".

Hi Orneta,

I see two problem in the 1.17 version

- when i change the Fonts settings and exit Orneta Notepad, the value of width aren't saved and i restart with Width 5.

I also see that if i choise Height 0 then when i quit the value is changed to 15.

(I generally use Width 0 and Height 0 to have a standar form of text and i haven't this problem in the last 1.16 version)

- I see that after install, Orneta Notepad start in T9 but if i choise in general settings "text (abc)", then Orneta is in T9 mode not in abc mode (only "Spell (multi-Tap)" change to abc mode).

If i choise "text (abc)" and force abc mode with the * key of the SPV to change T9 to abc, after it's ok with "text (abc)" or T9 in general setting (if i exit Orneta Notepad, it's also ok after).

I also see this problem in the 1.16 version.

Else all seem ok, great work :) ;)

Not possible! I have just tested it: changed width and height for example to 4 and 12 and then I exited and opened again and it remembered latest settings.

You are right: it is not remembering values "0" and "0" - for width and height but you can remember any other (valid) values. So just find combination (different than zero) that you like (probably something like 7 and 14, I don't know what you like) and exit notepad - then these font settings will be saved.

It is "default" mode - it means a mode in which it starts when you exit it and start again. Sorry but I don't quite understand the second part of above quote - so if you could elaborate we could debug it.

Well it seemed logical to us, that nobody needs 0, 0 values so that's why they are not saved (but everything else, any other values are saved). You are the first who needed it and noticed it. We will correct it in next version though. Don't worry. In next version you will be able to save also 0,0.

Ah, I see. The problem is that :

T9 ---> abc

...through settings dialog is not working but :

abc ---> T9

...through settings dialog is working.

The workaround that you presented is a good solution of this problem. I don't know why it is a problem at all - we are just sending proper messages to the control so it should work - I cannot promise that we will be able to resolve this problem therefore, but we will try. It may well be beyond us and maybe it is some hidden feature or behavior of the smartphone system.

ok thanks Orneta for the 0 value (for exemple the form text like sms spv program is Width 0 Height 18 i think)

I also see a very small problem not very important with the Orneta Notepad icon if i use a skin with MRU command to see shortcut from the banner page.

The icon appears but it's very very small.

for the second problem, yes at start T9->Text abc don't work (but T9-> Speel Multi tap work and make abc mode).

The only solution i found for T9-> Text abc is to force the abc mode 1 time with the * key when i choice Text(abc) the first time, after it's work even i change to T9 and return to Text abc.

This is a superb product! Can I just make one suggestion? This is quite a major thing tho:

I use Orneta Notepad mainly for SMSing - because of the character count. Would it be at all possible for SMSes sent to be copied to the Sent Items folder within Pocket Outlook? Pretty please!!! :)

Great application, even better now that you can go directly to the top of the document. Just one comment on the search facility. It is Case sensitive so the text needs to be put in exactly as it appears in the document. Would it be possible to a have a search that is not case sensitive. (Eg search for 'great' in the context of this post will not find it at the beginning of this paragraph, but search for 'Great' will).

I would probably buy the product if I used it on a daily basis for SMSing, but for the reasons pointed out by others, I do not. Though, it would be my default SMS composer if:

- When I hit send it took me to Pocket Outlook New Message and pasted text in there. Then use standard means of sending.

- Had (9)preset text slots.

- And ultimately, ability to use non-standard characters/letters. In Poland you guys use mostly latin alphabet (with some extras), so say an add-on character map would be sound!!

Just a few ideas if you wish to consider.

Also, have you thought of customising your signature, to link to your products? (I know you can click on 'www' button below, but..)

I've just noticed that my text files don't have an Orneta specific icon allocated to them - just the default icon for unassigned file extensions?! I have .txt set up as the file association in Orneta.

Any ideas please?

Yes, just go to Menu / File associations more than 1 time and enter there for example "html" and "Done" Soft key and then again and "xyz" and "Done" soft key, etc etc.

Sorry, we don't know about icons. If somebody knows how to do it: let us know - we can program it for you into Orneta Notepad without problems.

You thought that Orneta Notepad is perfect and cannot be improved? Well, we work hard to improve our software all the time.... :

- NEW in version 1.18: when sending SMS messages now you can pick SMS recipient from "Recent" menu position in the sending dialog - so no need to pick SMS recipient from full contact list - therefore much faster SMS sending possible!

- NEW in version 1.18: new feature in File menu: Instert a file - now you can insert content of some file opened through mini-browser into currently edited file - in this way you can merge files and compose bigger files from smaller ones

- NEW in version 1.18: mini explorer that is built-in into the program has been extended with the new feature: when you try to open another file, then the explorer is being opened in exactly the same position (folder highlighted / file highlighted ) as last time you used the explorer; thanks to this feature you can open subsequently many files from the same directory without the need to nagivate to it each time again and again from the beginning

- NEW in version 1.18: font preview field added to font settings dialog: you can now immediately observe how the font will look like, that you want to use

(and the program in 1.18 version is also code signed - it works in any smartphone, also in locked Orange SPV phones)

Sorry, we have forgotten this.

But it is not "zero width" - zero just means some default value that you can find yourself , something like 4-11 or so, and then save, and then you can have the optimal look none the less.
