The TyTN flash is pants anyway, i'd rather have no flash and a better performing camera in low light!

P

yea but its nice to have as a light source when trying to see in the dark (im not refering to taking picture, but just trying to see in the dark)

Thinking about it more, I think 'TouchFLO' refers to using the finger to scroll around, rather than the fancy 3D interface. The Kaiser build I has includes the scrolly stuff (albeit buggy), just no control panel applet (yet).

P

So paul on your model you dont have that TouchFLO option in your settings then? I mean ask yourself that, why would HTC give this phone TouchFLO features but no TouchFLO screen? I guess we will have to see if it appears on the HTC website under "pocket pc" or "TouchFLO". but do tell us if you find out more from your contacts.

You know, just by looking at this review it makes me wonder if his screen is a TouchFLO screen or just the normal touchscreen.

So it's been just over 2 weeks now since I reviewed the Kaiser, i've had a significant software update for the device, and i've been away on holiday in a usage scenario that I wouldn't normally see... so I thought i'd take this opportunity to list things I like and don't about the Kaiser.

Your Review makes me know: I want a Kaiser!

Still i would like to know about the readability of the screen in bright sunlight because i often use the PDA for Geocaching and so i have to use it outdoors often with no shadow around...

Greetings

Michael

I don't have TouchFLO in my settings, but I do have some TouchFLO functionality, I guess I just have a slightly older build than that in the Expansys video.

I am certain that all Kaisers have a regular screen, just with some TouchFLO functionality (i.e. finger scrolling) in software.

Readability in direct sunlight is pretty good, miles better than the HTC Touch for example, which is basically unreadable in direct sunlight.

At the request of mikeeey I tried Quake 3 Arena and FPSECE on the device.

Q3A crashed out, FPSECE was very slow... some optimisations for the Kaiser GFX chip needed I think :)

Hi Guys

When I said that I read somewhere (I think in an article related with the visit of Presidente of HTC Europe to Portugal) about TouchFLO in Kaiser, I am thinking in TouchFLO technology not TouchFLO functionality.

Hello,

I am a newbie :) on this forum but I got a question.

I have been reading this topic very carefully and I am convinced that the HTP Kaiser is the phone/pda to go for.

I want to buy my first gsm/pda with and I am looking for an everything in one device like this one.

So GSM, keyboard, PDA (to work on excell and word and read my emails) and GPS.

I was looking around on some sites and I came across the Glofiish M700 by E-ten and was planning to buy that one.

It has all the feautures I need and more. Is this phone comparable with the Kaiser?

Any other capable slider phones with GPS out there that are worth looking into? (I couldnt find any others)

I am soon going to China and hong kong for a vacation.

I can buy it there (the glofiish) for about 335 Euro (= +/- 462$) with a worlwide warranty.

In store here (belgium) it goes for about 550 Euro (= +/- 759$)

However reading about the Kaiser, this one is nicer ;)

The problem is I am only going once to china and I can buy that glofiish for an attractive price.

Should I wait for the Kaiser, buy it here and pay more or is the glofiish a safe bet and reliable phone?

Many thanks for the advice

Ps: I am also very curious what Apple is going to do with the iPhone in Belgium. It is illegal to sell a phone with a plan attached to it and not seperate. All phones sold in belgium are simlock free. Will they ask a rediculous price over here or just not release it in Belgium? Anway I think everybody who bought the Ipod is or extremly rich or a maniac for hypes. 600$ for the phone and attached to a 2 year plan???? What's that all about?

Pss: sorry for the possible (certain) grammer mistakes. Working on it :P

Hello all!

Now, when almost everything about it is clear, I think the loading time is interesting to be known.. It's not the final release, but neverthless how many ~secs he Kaiser takes to get the normal home screen?(after restart or turning on the device) :)

I guess all the questions here serve the purpose of keeping at least some news coming every day :) At the moment I still have my qtek2020 so i am not wondering wether or not it will be a good upgrade hahaha.

@paul ... have you shot some pictures with the kaiser while on holdiay you might be able to share?

@christophe...

im glad to hear august is the release date for the AT&T 8925. August 22nd i believe.

but are u saying that because of the stupid iPhone we now have to pay even more for our pocket pc's and smartphones? this was never an issue before, it was just like buying any phone.

Actually this has been Cingular's policy for some time now, way before the iPhone. Smartphones get a $20 unlimited data plan and PDA phones get a $40 unlimited data plan. They assume that PDA users use more data which isn't always true.

Look at the chart for yourself: http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter...-comp-table.jsp

The "Smartphone Connect" plan is $19.95 for unlimited data. The "PDA Personal Max" plan is $39.95 for unlimited data. The "PDA Personal Max" plan does include 1500 text messages but that isn't worth an additional $20 per month.

Paul,

I just returned the Toshiba G900 for MANY reasons, not the least, its inability to sync Outlook 2003 Notes. Do you use Notes in Outlook? If so, do they sync properly? I currently use WM5 on my HP hx4705, with Notes being one of my most-used applications.

Thanks.

I considered the G900, but after seeing on tracyandmatts video I figured it was too large for my liking. Glad I didnt bother now, the Kaiser is definitely the device of choice for this round.

Is the screen the same dimensions as an existing HTC product, so we can order screen protectors before the phone arrives? If so, which model?

the external dimensions are verys similar to the Cingular 8525 or HTC Hermes/TyTn. The screen is QVGA on both units so i suppose the screen size will be exactly the same.

I must say that initially I was very impressed by the iPhone's user interface.

Slide your finger to the right to unlock the phone. Spread your fingers to zoom into an image. Tap with two fingers to zoom out again. Move your finger around inside the text/body of an e-mail and a magnifying glass appears to help you fluidly position the cursor with greater precision. A visual verification of every key-press when using the virtual keyboard. Lots of nice visual effects. And a slick design.

But now I start to wonder if the iPhone isn't just skin deep.

(Almost) everything they - iPhone users - can do, we - Pocket PC users - can do better, with a stylus.

-To use an iPhone, you have to learn alot of finger movements, just to use the phone's features.

-The virtual keyboard seems to be a very painful experience. I have used the keyboard of Sony Ericsson P990, and it really is too small for comfortable fluid typing. And I can't imagine that making it a virtual keyboard (as the iPhone does) with no physical keys will make it any easier, rather the opposite. How many frustrating errors will you make just because your fingertip missed the correct key (in any application, not just the virtual keyboard)?

Sure, you can probably use a (virtual) numeric keypad with T9 (thus getting larger keys), but for me, a phone without a functional QWERTY-keyboard is just a toy.

-With iPhone you lose, as far as I know, the scrollbars (to free up more screen space). But scrollbars are not only for stylus navigation, but also help give you a rough idea how large an image or webpage is. With iPhone, it seems you have no idea.

And in order to get a fancy user interface, you have to give up 3G, stylus, GPS and keyboard...

In the long run, that new, cool user interface might even get annoying/slow.

The Kaiser is the phone for me.

yea the iphones keyboard really annoyed me. it takes up the screen, and its still hard to type! id rather have a pocket pc with a real slide out keyboard.

I will be up for this would love to come up north for a drink got a few friends up that way too. So could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Just trying to get some new phones to play with. Kaiser is taking a lot of my time up though.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE! You have TWO Kaisers? Not Fair! And now I wished I lived across the pond near Norwich so I could get a "hands on" of the phones and say a nice toast to you all as I buy a round for all! I am so anxious to get the phone I can't stand it. I don't even care how much it is. I've been saving change for years and now it's time to spend this "chump change"...Expansys (aka MobilePlanet in the States) HERE I COME! :)

Although, if AT&T comes out with it first (doubtful) then I'll just sign up for 2 more years. Doesn't matter to me since I've been with them for almost 10 years. This has been the best Kaiser thread. I can't wait to read the new questions, comments & answers everyday. Thanks to Paul and others for allowing me to "live vicariously through you!".

Cheers!

I've just learned that production P4550's have a rubberised back instead of the shiny back... and I should have one in the next day or so. Hurrah! :)
