Guest Blakey Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I've just spoken to a guy in T-Mobile Fleet Street (London) who said that there's a fair chance T-Mobile UK may not carry the Kaiser at all because it's not 3G. Errrrr, eh? That doesn't sound at all right.
Guest johnyysmith Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 (edited) I've just spoken to a guy in T-Mobile Fleet Street (London) who said that there's a fair chance T-Mobile UK may not carry the Kaiser at all because it's not 3G. Apparently it would go against the T-Mobile 'web' roadpath. Very confused noob here. Paul said in his review "That obviously means 3G, but there's HSPDA (3G on steroids) and HSUPA (even quicker)" My intention was to get an unlocked one of these along with a pay as you go sim card from 3 (www.three.co.uk). Will it work that way or am I missing something please? Edited July 26, 2007 by johnyysmith

If this is the case I will have to buy the device offline :) I think its just a case of wait and see now. I don't know if Fleabag is still a member here but he was already pretty clued up on what was going on at T-Mobile (I believe he worked for them).
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I've just spoken to a guy in T-Mobile Fleet Street (London) who said that there's a fair chance T-Mobile UK may not carry the Kaiser at all because it's not 3G. Apparently it would go against the T-Mobile 'web' roadpath. I'm beginning to think I might not bother with the Kaiser, and may go for a Vario II instead, or an Orange M3100. I'm getting hammered for GPRS on O2, and even waiting for 2 months for the Kaiser could cost me £40-50 in charges, which I could save and put towards a Bluetooth GPS.... Feel free to go back and tell the aforementioned guy he's an idiot, and the Kaiser IS 3G. Personally I would wait, the Kaiser is a great improvement on the Hermes devices. P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 The Kaiser is DEFINITELY coming out on T-Mo, and it's DEFINITELY going to be called the 'MDA Vario III' and it's DEFINITELY due (at this stage) in early September. P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 So I can shoot some videos now if you want, then some more when I get the new ROM updates. Dunno what you want me to video tho :) P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 So in the interest of getting a video posted, I just wandered outside with the device, freshly hard reset and all default settings. Attached both as a file and via revver (when they approve it!). As you can see, the video quality isn't really worth getting excited about yet :) P VIDEO0001.mp4

Personally I would wait, the Kaiser is a great improvement on the Hermes devices. Fair enough then. I thought it was a little weird. Any guesses on price yet (with contracts)? Or would that be pure speculation?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Extreme wind noise on that video clip or what :) P
Guest Re-D Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 (edited) thx for the video Paul. Quite good the quality for me. P.s.: your home is a little windy, isn't it? :) Edited July 26, 2007 by Re-D
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 It is quite windy today actually :) P
Guest LaSepultura Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Thank you so much Paul. That clip swayed me to wait for the HTC Kaiser over the E90. The video quality is just a little bit below the E90, but not enough to sacrifice 3G and a touchscreen.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I think it could do much better, hopefully they will tune it prior to launch, or CoolCapture type apps will provide a better solution. P

P Paul Do you mean to say it's definitely coming to T-Mo in Sept, or it'll be released as the P4550 in Sept with T-Mo possibly a little later?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 It's coming to T-Mo in Sept so i'm told. P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 No, I'm just too lazy to walk any further than the drive, and I wanted to show a close up type shot! P
Guest Troxelke Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Nice info again Paul, thanks a lot for that!! Superb..... also your car... nice one! :P Could you maybe give some more info on the GPS side? How fast does the GPS have a fix from scatch? Maybe a photo with TT6 in landscape mode would be JUMMY! ;) Anyways, my hands and credit card are also stand-by for buying ... :)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I'll try TT in landscape now. TTFF is always a bit variable, but i'll do a cold start with QuickGPS when I get a chance and post some times :) P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 TT6 works great in Landscape, and switches on the fly as you open / close the device :) P
Guest Chrome Blade Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Sup Paul and all other forum members, I've been keeping an eye on this forum as soon as I caught wind of Kaiser. Anyways I can't wait for this thing to release since it is going to be my first smart phone and actually my third phone in general... This forum is really sweet and the way Paul always on is also a plus, especially since no one in my area even knows this phone exists. The only thing I don't like is having to wait for 2 months before it's even out then waiting 2 more for my contract with verizon to expire. >_< <---Yea that face pretty much sums it up
Guest mikeeey Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Indeed, the Touch screen is generally poorer visually than other PPCs, poorer contrast, lower brightness, less 'feel'... it is more robust tho :) P well if there's that many down sides to the TouchFLO screen then i dont think i would want it on the kaiser. besides, if they can perfect the TouchFLO features to work on a normal screen then im fine with that. 'If you can't have cameras at work then just use a crappy phone'. Interesting perspective :P P haha. you know i ment a seperate crappy phone right?
Guest mikeeey Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 (edited) Attached is a grab from the Bluetooth test report on the fcc site, other docs have same info. Gordon thank god. we've now cleared up it's a color camera lol. Edited July 26, 2007 by mikeeey
